Moderates would rather have tie or lose out right than be a winner!

Nope. moderates want to be the tie breakers. They want to be the ones that make a difference. Since we do not do the Euro-style coalition governments and since we don't elect our President out of a parliamentary style election, moderates play a key role. W got 2% more of them than Kerry did this past election....

"we also need to remember that neither the conservative nor the liberal bases are enough to win an election on a national scale. There has to be some moderate appeal or else you get 35% and an @$$-whuppin...."

Absolutely correct. Us despised moderates are just as important. The choice is clear. Big tent or no tent.

Funny, the only Republican to recently win by a land slide was Reagan, who campaigned on an unabashidly conservative
platform. Apealing to moderates just causes elections to be close. Remember, half the country doesen't normally vote. I think it's because usually neither option is a conservative.
Remember the great turnout for RINO Dole?

This group obviously thinks the Republican Party should do without the Christian conservatives, as it did for the 40 years it was out of power.
Push the social conservatives out, and you will encourage them to form another party, perhaps the Christian Conservative Party, thus insuring that socialist/secularist Democrats run our country until the next revolution.

Nope. moderates want to be the tie breakers.

We were winning the judicial filibuster fight for an up or down vote on ALL judges till you're buddy Johnny McVain and his merry band of wannabe mavericks turned it into a loss.

That's what moderates did!

These moderates are not working for the voters that made them a majority!

I didn't realize you were such a staunch supporter of these traitors to the republican party, which I feel they are!

As a moderate, I guess you have republican leanings sometimes and Democrat leanings other times?

It's My Party Too, Because I Don't Want To Lose My Power And Influence And Start A Principled Third Power - is more like it.

Christie Todd Whitman - the media whore who used Howard Stern to get elected NJ Governor. A cheap stunt worthy of any Dem.

The two party system doesn't work.
It will only be a matter of time before two more parties spring out of the current two.

"Absolutely correct. Us despised moderates are just as important. The choice is clear. Big tent or no tent."

Then leave the tent already. This is a Conservative forum......with the goal of furthering Conservatism. If you're not a Conservative maybe you should vote for democrats....as they seem more in-tune with your "values".

"Moderate means a person without solid convictions for sale to the highest bidder. An idiot that wishes to appeal to the nonexistent "center" invented by the MSM. Their appeal is to Wafflers, people who have no clue why they are on this planet. "

Well said.

I would have to agree there...

and then we will end up with quasi coalitions governments like the Europeans have....

not that we will elect Presidents out of that, but bills and stuff like that will need cross-party support to pass....

Don't know how the government can deny gay marriage? Have you not seen the margins of people in states voting AGAINST it?

Listen to the wisdom of the electorate. THAT'S how!!!

I don't support gay marriage, but have a hard time understanding how the government can deny it.

That debate, and where it is being decided, is at the state level. Most, if not all, of the gay marriage amendments won with nearly 2/3s of the vote in something like 19 states this past election cycle.

I wouldnt be totally against a federal amendment, but I do think that the states should be the ones to handle it.

I am concerned with a minority taking over the party that I have voted for probably long before you were born.

I don't want to see irrelevant social issues destroy the rep party, thus enabling the democrats to take over the country and ruin it.
