Rep. Harold Ford Jr. Files for Frist's Senate Seat NewsMax.com Wires
Thursday, May 26, 2005 NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Democratic Rep. Harold Ford Jr. filed the federal paperwork Wednesday to run for the Senate seat being vacated by Republican Majority Leader Bill Frist.
The five-term congressman from Memphis is the second Democrat to enter the 2006 race. Frist has said he does not plan to seek a third term.
"I'm excited. I'm ready to go," Ford said in telephone interview from Washington. He said his top issues will be energy reform, national security and education. Ford, 35, is a member of a Memphis political dynasty. He delivered the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in 2000, unsuccessfully challenged Rep. Nancy Pelosi for the post of House minority leader in 2002 and served as a national campaign co-chairman for John Kerry's presidential run in 2004.
Ford's father represented Memphis in Congress for 22 years. An uncle is a state senator now under investigation {He has since resigned.} for his consulting deals with companies doing business with the state. Other uncles and cousins hold local offices.

Little Ford will never win this seat.
His politics don't fit and the demographics are against him unless the illegals can vote. Plus his uncle's troubles can't help.
The Pubbies shoulda run Blackburn. She has proven to be resolute. Her ACU last year was 100 and she as a chick could take the steam out of Ford's pretending to be black and playing up the minority thing.

And if he did cross the aisle, he'd be worse than the senior senator from PA.
Everybody, Theodore R. is a virulent liberal and has been missed by the moderators for some time. He is a troll please disregard anything he says. During 2004 he was campaigning for baby killer brad carson over Tom Coburn.
Absentee and early voting run by the Democrats will insure Ford's success.
susan asp (adler) thorpe was on the news last night and she said this would effect JUNIOR's fund raising abilities..he need at least 10 Mil for a run at Frist seat. She didn't think he'd be able to raise the funds. thorpe is a RAT insider, former Commie Appeal reporter and former aide to the Shelby Co Mayor...she got caught giving favors to a friend.
JUNIOR will not switch parties, his base is Afro-American.

Yeah. But if the seat got turned to the democrats, the Republicans could pride themselves that they did not compromise on principles.
They can call the opposing Republican names, like rino.
They can threaten to, and in fact, not vote.
They can threaten to vote for a 3rd party, or for the democrat (and do so).
That's my good old GOP. Never compromise on principle.
Ford doesn't need huge amounts of money to win in TN: he has name recognition already and starts out with 40 percent of the vote.
As for Frist seat it will come down to Ed Bryant or Van Hilleary..I want Bryant as he is the more conservative.
Wouldn't you think that even a GOP-controlled commission in Shelby Co. will still name a liberal Democrat approved by the Ford family for this seat?

You had better look around and do more reading than writing for a while. You'll learn that Theodore R. has earned the respect of FReepers throughout that more than four year period.

It would just be a caretaker appointment then, like the young Republican who served a term in Congress after unseating the powerful Dan Rostenkowski in 1994. That Ford state Senate seat will be permanently Democrat for the whole 21st Century I would imagine.

"Another possible scenario is for Ford to scream racism in Tennessee and get all of the rats scurrying to his support and carry that support to Hillary's ticket as the poster boy who could deflect criticism from her."
I don't think the racism card is going to work very well, it's getting really old. Besides, the guy is very white and urbane and he's going to have trouble playing the downtrodden part.
"After living in Tennessee for 30 years it still beats the heck out me. It is the ignorant masses. Pay my utility bill and I will vote for you no matter what you stand for."
It goes all the way back to the Civil War and Yellow Dog Democrats. My Dad was even more conservative than I am but would still vote Democrat. The Dims in the South used to be very conservative even more so than the Rinos of today.
