That last reply also is extended to you---

Sometimes I cause a lot of trouble when I start "over thinking" some things....I believe this was one of those times...

Again, I apologize, especially to vets...

Thanks---for understanding what I clumsily was trying to convey...

What is really amazing about these men/women in Iraq is, a lot of the ones that have died lately, are there on their second tour, and volunteered to go back...

We have a relatively new Veteran's Memorial Cemetary in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, that I pass quite often....whenever I see it, a lump automatically comes to my throat when I see the lines of pristine white crosses....

Don't be sorry. Various events spark different memories in everybody.

I would not watch any film concerning Vietnam until sometime the 90's. And, I've still not seen most of the so-called popular films on Vietnam.

I was livid when McNamara's book came out admitting he and others lied to the country as well as everyone in the military. His name is only mentioned with disgust in my house, along with LBJ.

Am I bitter? Yeah, I guess so.

When Clinton shows up on tv, I grab the remote. However, leaving aside the fact that I haven't seen his face of late and can't wade in on how he looks, if he's having exhaustion problems or anything related to his heart operation, etc., you can bet Hillary has already has her designer widow's weeds picked out and paid for just in case.

No problem. I think everyone knew what you meant!

We have a new Veteran's memorial in my small town (I flagged HiJinx 'cause his Dad lives here). I'm taking the kids down there tomorrow to lay a bunch of flowers and a palm from Palm Sunday there.

They have a strange relationship indeed. One would think that she would have divorced him long ago, but you know what they say politics has some strange bedfellows, especially in their case!!

My husband and I left theaters 2-3 times back when the Vietnam movies first came out---we would THINK that we wanted to see them, but it was just too hard back then...

I still won't watch Apocolypse Now, or Deerhunter..he has, but I can't...

Gary Bauer, a very conservative ex-congresscritter

Bauer never served in Congress.

I also think he's tried to undermine President Bush on several occasions and his comments on judicial nominees in comparison with his representations of private conversations with McCain are an example of this unfortunate trait.

You are right-somewhere along the way, my peabrain got into it the thought that he was...or else I was confusing him with another congresscritter, Bob Barr, I think his name is...

Isn't there a Bob Barr that is a conservative ex-congresscritter? If so, I think I may have mixed the two up, which is not uncommon for me---my memory brain cells are shooting out of my ears right now, I do believe!!! LOL

Bolton is a target because the Dems want to attack Bush's foreign policy. Condi received more nay votes in her confirmation than any SecState in a century.

Those pointing out that Dodd's pro-Cuban stance has much to do with the anti-Bolton nomination are correct and Novak is not the only source.

I'm popping in to point out that during the hearings on Rice both Dodd and Biden were very pro-Venezuelan in their questioning of her. Venezuela has formed an alliance with Cuba.

Thanks---you kept me from driving myself crazy this afternoon!!!

BTW, during the interview with Wolfie, in which McCain was asked about his conversation with Gary Bauer, the Swifties were brought up again...

McCain still doesn't see that he did anything wrong by slamming them even BEFORE reading the book, or interviewing Paul O'Neill, or the other Swifties....but he swears that every line in the movie based on his book is fact...

McCain has my respect for what he went through in Vietnam, but I find his attitude towards these types of issues disingenuous at best, and totally politically movtivated and shameful, at worst...

Memorial Day is for those who made the ultimate sacrifice and died fighting in the line of duty, as you and your husband correctly state, but there is no harm done in tying the day to those who were and are willing to take the risk.

At Mass last night, Father Mike, an Air Force Reservist just back from Iraq, ended the service by speaking of Memorial Day's traditional meaning and asked veterans to stand. He reminded us that these veterans had been willing to lay down their lives as others had who paid the price. As representatives of those we honor on this holiday he then gave a special blessing. But during his remarks we in the congregation did interrupt with applause of approval.

I think saying Happy Memorial Day is clumsy but not thoughtless. I wouldn't do it, but if I heard it, I would take it as expressing happiness over our country and gratitude for those who serve her.

I can tell from your post that you and your husband would have been very moved by the loud and sustained applause that I mentioned we in the congregation broke into during Father Mike's remarks.

This was a gathering that appreciates our veterans!

I know I had tears in my eyes and I wasn't alone.

My husband hasn't let the reception he got when he got back ruin his life, or make him terribly cynical...

BUT, when the campaign for Kerry started and he started touting his Vietnam record, I could see some anger in his eyes that I hadn't seen in our 33 years of marriage...

It wasn't just Kerry, it was the whole way that congress let those traitors (IMHO) have the platform, and even rewarded the Kerry's of the world back then...

Putting all this together down my way you have a nasty scenario. Though Russia doesn't fund Castro anymore his new best buddy is China. The chicoms whose new best buddies are the Russians.

so you have the Venezuelans in bed with Castro who is in bed with the Chicoms who are buddies with the Russians.

I don't like the looks of any of it. Between Cuba and Venezuela alone they can spread a lot of left win BS throughout Central and S. America and probably already are.
It's all huge emerging situation that I am sure we are already on top of.
