"When we start arresting the employers along with the illegals, an siezing business of repeat offenders..."

Hard to say which is worse. The illegal immigration problem or the proposed solution. Big government police state here we come.

I don't consider it an intrusion to demand that all employers verify prospective workers against a database of legitimizer Social Security numbers. This can be easily arranged and set up. As of now employers can make such checks but they are not required by law. Thus the charade of accepting phony IDs and phony Green Cards. Like this car wash owner Garcia is doing.

The illegal immigration problem or the proposed solution.

Dad's company used to have some factories in California, and I vaguely recall him saying back in the Sixties that they wouldn't hire illegals because of the fines and penalties. IIRC they'd also shut down the factory for days at a time, so it wasn't fiscally prudent to hire illegals.

It is not a police state to enforce existing immigration laws, which is not done at this time. It is against the law for these employers to hire illegals and they should pay the price for breaking the law just as everyone else does.

The solution is to merely enforce the laws on the books. There are fines for employers who hire illegals. They are progressive with every new infraction. If the employer insists on breraking the law repeatedly, he will fine himself out of business.

It is not any more draconian than other laws that protect the work place. We just have to enforce the existing law.

During the Clinton Adminstration, a loophole was created for illegals who stay here ten years can file for a green card and social security number. I know someone who did it, was sponsored by a family and now she's legal. My mother's employer got a letter from a prominent republican politician asking of their interest in employing a Mexican housekeeper. Very strange times we're in.

You should not take the anti immigrant comments on FR at face value.

The anti immigrant comments are often ginned up arguments against mexicans when in reality, the posters are against mexicans because they speak spanish, are of a darker color than themselves and seem "culturally" different.

If the mexicans were of northern european descent and english speaking and more like them culturally, you would see an outpouring of compassion to help and aid the poor unfortuneate souls.

This attitude is out of fear that they are losing control as the native european population has dropped from about 90% of the population to about 70%.

Fear brings out the worst in people. Fear gets you witch trials. Fear is what you see in the current democrats turning to Howard Dean. Fear is why Jesus was cruxified. Fear is not a good emotion.
