Hypocrisy is the one unforgiveable sin of leftism.

In fact, it's a social lubricant, and as Oscar Wilde had it, "the homage that vice pays to virtue".

The difference between Christians and non-Christians is that Christians are ashamed of their sin and don't defend their actions, but instead try to fix their lives. Non-Christians do not feel any shame about the sins that Christians tell them about. They instead want acceptance for their sin and try to defend it by smothering the voices of the people who call them on it. Their best strategy to do so is to mention Christians' sin and call them hypocrites.

Christians and like-minded people should just accept the criticism and say that we should all improve our lives. Most important, they should continue to speak up.

True and fitting -- Hypocrisy is the homage which vice renders to virtue -- but it's La Rochefoucauld, not Wilde, who also wrote famous words on the subject:
I hope you have not been leading a double life, pretending to be wicked and being really good all the time. That would be hypocrisy.

-- The Importance of Being Earnest.
