Captured unlawful combatants are not entitled to POW status because such men are associated with groups that do not comply with even the most basic law of war requirements — such as the prohibition on targeting civilians. They do not enjoy special privileges under the Geneva Conventions, although customary international law provides that they must be treated humanely.

Actually, the traditional rules of war call for a quick execution for those who engage in the likes of terrorism, or in older terminology spies and saboteurs, pirates, etc.

I'm not sure direct causation can be proven, it is interesting to note that the more the West has shown itself willing to excuse terrorism, the more terrorism the West has faced.

While I am not going to make the truly traditional case which would involve reprisals for acts of terrorism, clearly the notion common on the Left that we should coddle those who actually engage in terrorism against us is absurd with even the most basic knowledge of history...

Absolutely agree with this statement: "it is interesting to note that the more the West has shown itself willing to excuse terrorism, the more terrorism the West has faced". The sooner this becomes evident to the Western mind, the sooner the root of the problem, Islam/Socialism/Tyrannies, will be addressed as it should be, no quarter to be given to Terrorism, either state or non-state supported!
