I was told years ago by someone in the State Department that they routinely altered/redacted/stonewalled any documents to the Senate because they knew they couldn't trust them.

They also leak them to undercut policies or people they don't like. Biden and Dodd have already received these documents or they have been told what is in them. The Dems figure they can't lose. If the administration fails to provide them, they continue the non-filibuster filibuster. If they recieve the documents, they use the information to kill the nomination.

BTW. I spent almost 30 years in the State Department.

I like that idea. Where is the President in all this mess? I don't understand his strategy of keeping such a low profile.

what do you want Frist to do? he can't compel them to vote a certain way. he could talk them down, sure. that isn't going to get them to change their votes, especially McCain.

you have hit on it really, Bush is a good man - but a weak president politically speaking. That's why McCain and his merry men think they can roll him.

This is something most people cringe hearing: I think that anyone who refuses to leave a POW camp, especially when he had been severely injured, is by definition crazy.

One step further: Don't try to understand crazy people and certainly don't vote for them.

Bush should just make a recess appointment and go on.

Exactly. A clear lesson in the limits of their power to obstruct. Bush recessed Pryor and now he's headed for a permanent slot. If you recall, some RINO Senators at that time predicted it would make RATs madder when Pryor came round for the next round. Nope. The RATs are just like the Muslims, they respect one thing and one thing only...the brutal application of force, with no compromises.

By standing in the shadows, Bush is only emboldening the McCains of the Senate to fill the vacuum with RINO wussiness. His father took the same tack with George Mitchell, to a disastrous end. If Bush took off the gloves with the RATs and RINO traitors alike, he would be amazed how quickly their opposition would evaporate.

Why do you think he weak politically? He was elected with the largest popular vote in history.

He is stronger thatn last year, one would think. That is the real question: Why do the "moderates" in the GOP think they can go after him? It is quite bizarre. There is something going on that we do not know about.

Are the moderates just out of touch with the base, and give the media too much credit for opinion shaping? Is there a bribe in place? Blackmail?

This is all too strange.

Why is no one pointing out that the leading Democrat and Republican on the committee that is evaluating Bolton viewed this CLASSIFIED information and said that there is NOTHING to it. Do you think the Democrats in the Senate are even remotely responsible enough to handle classified information?? Loose Lips Leahy would spill this classified information all over the place even if it cost American lives.

Enough is enough. Time for the CONSTITUTIONAL option.

Frist isn't going to do anything. He is a'' nice'' Southern gentleman. Trouble is when dealing with Rats you need a bulldog to crush, squash, and rip their evil heads off so they cant breed and come back. Sadly I can't think of anybody in the Republican party right now who fits that bill. They're all too nice! Anybody got any ideas?

He is not

The Senate is a different body of government and the President isn't going but his nose into their problems

He has his own job to do

That's why McCain and his merry men think they can roll him.

They can think all they want

Reality is .. the party base has had it with McCain and his ego

His chances of ever being President is Toast

No it is not crazy. It is called honor and the code of conduct.

"If I am captured, I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy."

McCain stayed because he did not want to accept special favors from the enemy. McCain's father was CINCPAC at the time. McCain should be admired for his decision, not castigated or described as crazy.

And he would turn the PR battle on its head. That is why he should deliver a scolding.

And I mean something along the lines of "We are at war! What are you telling our enemies? How can you get together for unethical embryo research but squabble about something that is not even your constitutional right to squabble about!"

Just come out and say what is on every Republicans mind and for just once drop the "New Tone" and behave like the leader of the GOP.

Clarify it for the American people.

He will not do it but he should.

It is amazing that the Rats are doing this after a trouncing like last year. There must be a unbelievable media campaign coming this summer. Some incredible scandal, market manipulation, or possibly even and attack on us. I cannot imagine what emboldens them so. I cannot understand what is wrong with the GOP leadership.

I'd close every damn military base in NM and stop all federal funding to NM till this Nitwit resigns.

McCain is from AZ, not NM.

I say we still cut NM off. Serve 'em right for bordering McCain's State!
