Be warned..you will need tissues. Lots of them.
God bless you this Memorial Day.
Tnank you for being here, you "sick freak!" :-)
Thank you for your service. I also have the picture of The Wall........
Thank you, veterans. I could never repay you...
You are welcome but no need to thank me for my very little part. I know what you mean about The War. Let soldiers fight the war like they were trained to do, without politics!!
No, it doesn't take away from their bravery and courage one bit. God Belss them all.
Thank you and thank you for your service.
Thank you for posting this, thanks to Glenn for producing this (I heard it on today's show), and to all veterans past and present...Thank you and may God bless all of you!
My dad's brother James died in WWII at the age of 22. As I read the piece I couldn't help but think of my dad and his family and how my uncle's death affected them for all their lives. There were circumstances in my uncle's death that I think placed an added heartache and confusion on my family - his death was, more than likely, a suicide.
My family never spoke of my uncle - I think it was such a deep pain that they never in some ways came to terms with what happened. I understand why they could not speak of his death - I just wish they could have spoken about his life, but I understand why they could not - I think it was just a pain too deep to share.
From a very young age, I often sensed a sadness in my grandmother that I could never understand. There were often times when she seemed to drift off into another time and place - a distant look would come into her eyes, and I would wonder where she had gone - I know now that at those times, she was with James.
My heart aches for all my dad's family as I know how deeply James' death affected all their lives. I wish I had known the truth about my uncle - I wish in some way I could have helped them with their pain. But they're all together now in God's care and I know all the pain is gone.
As his next of kin, I have all my uncle's possessions, and I cherish them with all my heart and soul. I never knew him, but I have researched his life and his death extensively over the last few years and I feel like I know him. He will always be a hero to me who not only bravely fought for the "championship of the world" as he said in his memories about WWII, but also fought his own personal demons. I know he is with God and his family, and I know he has found a peace in death that escaped him at the end of his life. Rest in peace, uncle James.
Once again, God bless all of you who have served - we owe you for everything we enjoy in this great country - from the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your service.
I'm thankful for Free Republic for that reason also. It was a great thing for me to become involved on Free Republic when I did because so *few* people really know anything that's going on. It's truly refreshing to be able to check in here every day and converse with like-minded folks! That's just something I've never had enough of in my normal course of life.
Gal, you said a mouthful there! I have always chafed at the BBQ's, picnics and days on the lake. It doesn't take too many IQ points to realize Mr. Webster has the definition of "Memorial" does it? :-)
I wasn't in the mood for Moron Trivia, so I switched channels on Glenn this morning. Thank you SO much, Chong, for transcribing and posting this. Now I know why visiting The Wall is so overwhelming each and every time I visit. God bless all those who stand on either side of it.
Good morning, Ace.
Thank you so much for your service. Hubby says to tell you WELCOME HOME, BROTHER.
Thanks for the link. We are listening right now.
ALL GAVE SOME,
SOME GAVE ALL...........
Our heart felt THANKS to ALL who served. We will always remember your sacrifice on this Memorial Day and everyday.
Thanks for sharing your story, Deb. I am so sorry for your loss. (((((((Hugs))))))))
Rest in Peace, uncle James.
