Organizers of a memorial for Hunter S. Thompson plan to erect a 150-foot structure courtesy of actor Johnny Depp to shoot the gonzo journalist's ashes onto his ranch near here.
Friends and acquaintances gathered Thursday to discuss the Aug. 20 invitation-only service, which will be six months after Thompson shot himself in his Woody Creek home.
Jon Equis, the event producer working with Thompson's family, said the tower will be 12 feet wide at the base and 8 feet wide at the top, where a cannon will be placed.
Depp, who portrayed the author in the movie version of Thompson's book "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" will pay for the tower, designed to resemble Thompson's "gonzo fist" emblem.
As Thompson requested, his ashes will be shot out of the cannon onto his property.
Equis said the tower will be constructed far from Woody Creek Road and covered with a black drape before the service to discourage tourists. A public event is expected to be planned later to commemorate the writer's life.
The August event will consist of "spoken word and live entertainment," Equis said. The cannon will be fired around sunset.
The event organizers must get the plans reviewed by the Pitkin County Community Development Department, but Thompson's widow, Anita Thompson, was supportive. She said the event will be a celebration.

Fudd, all I can say is that I was obeying the rules as told to me in post 4. I don't understand them, but certainly did not want to argue.

I just figured I shouldn't have to do ALL the work. I did post a picture of Sen. Robert Smith, after all. :^)

Actually, I didn't know who she was until after I posted the picture. Then, silly Catholic that I am, I felt, "ooh, I shouldn't have done that!"
She played Mary Magdeline in The Passion of the Christ.
Maybe it's just in one of those extra books in the bible we Catholics have, but I'm pretty sure there is something in there about, "Thou shall not inspire lustful thoughts about Saints."
You owe the oracle a tasteful photo of Leilee Sobiesky or Amber Tamblin. (It's OK... she's really 23.)

Lenny Bruce wrote and starred in a movie (Dance Hall Racket) for the same producer (George Weiss) that Ed Wood worked on Glen or Glenda with.
Lyle Talbot has a role in both films. Lenny Bruce referenced some of Ed's cohorts in several of his bits.
When Bela died, Lenny said that Bela had just spent several months in a hospital kicking his addiction; "what kind of example does this show for such treatments?".
He called Criswell some sort of low budget Nostradamus. I think there may be at least one more reference. I don't think that they ran in the same circles when they were both writing articles for men's magazines (Ed's weren't as high profile or "acceptable", Lenny appeared alongside articles from Isaac Asimov, Jack Kerouac, and others).

Interesting trivia. Two great martyrs to American Weirdness.
(And I might point out that Lenny Bruce, far from being a leftist, was actually a proto-libertarian who praised free enterprise "because it gives you a CHOICE, baby!")

The response to that request is that this would be the wrong site for anything glorifying him due to his hatred and comments about America. If he was one of us good guys, I'd be all for it.
