FRISCO There is a Mikey Roberts in every elementary school class. He talks a lot, he can't sit still and he's pushy the one most likely to get in trouble.
His teachers say students like Mikey are often misunderstood.
Mikey also is a people-oriented person with a domineering personality. Said another way, he's a natural leader.
That's what a personality test said about the first-grader at Smith Elementary School in Frisco. He and 370 classmates are part of a rare pilot program designed to help teachers manage their students.
...."This helps explain the unexplainable. It tells you why a kid behaves a certain way," said Mikey's teacher, Julie Hill.
....Mikey's mother, Dawn Roberts, said the test was a blessing. She immediately recognized traits outlined in her son's assessment, but more important, the results were confirmation that he was normal.
"Mikey is just a very energetic kid who has to keep busy or he gets bored," Ms. Roberts said. "He's the one who is going to come into the living room with underwear on his head because he knows it's going to make you laugh."
There's no doubt that 7-year-old Mikey is a challenge, she said. She said a few kindergarten teachers met him during an orientation and didn't want him in their class. A preschool teacher even suggested that he be tested for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. He was tested, but he had no disorders.
......Robert Rohm, a former teacher and principal who runs a 15-year-old Atlanta consulting firm, Personality Insights, designed the test for students.
.....Answers determine whether a child has primarily a Dominant, Inspiring, Supportive or Cautious personality, according to the assessment. Everyone has a blending of all four traits but leans toward one. Smith Elementary received Dr. Rohm's services free in a pilot program. ................................

I'm always misunderstood too. I don't know why they throw this white suit on me, it's hard to type with my nose....
Mikey has Spanking Deficit Disorder.
You got it!
One of these days, finally, the world's hard knocks will teach Mikey - unless he becomes one of the anointed who doesn't have to play by the rules!
A Supreme Court Justice?
How about a senate Democrat??
LOL
Most kids are a challenge but should the first suggestion be to drug the active ones (boys) up so they're manageable?
My boy Zack was the same way. He can make friends in a colony of Martians, and kids naturally gathered around him at school -- often it was they who were making the rumpus, not him.
It could also be that Mikey is bored out of his mind, which was what occurred when our school decided to throw 40 kids into a classroom with a 22 year old teacher on his first teaching job, and we ranged from 6 gifted kids to three 15 year old retarded boys. We gifted kids had our books confiscated so we wouldn't work ahead, and we spent our time creating a disturbance because we had nothing else to do.
Maybe the teacher ought to give Mikey some work to do that will keep him busy. Lke teach him to read and ask him to report to the class on an interesting book? Or send him to music class and have them teach him to play the drums.
It's on tv all the time, You got a problem? We got a drug for you, your kids, dogs, cats, if it walks, crawls, has a heartbeat, we got a drug to $$ell you ;)
I know.
It's sad and depressing.
Maybe I need a pill.
=^(
Have you seen the t-shirt that says:
"They say I have ADD but they just don't understand.
Look! a chicken!"
Another one says:
"Here let's it for dyslexia"
There's a fun thread about taxing the entertainment industry, maybe that will cheer you up ;)
LMAO! Good one :) :)
I like the chicken one hehehehe :

That should do the trick!
What is wrong with that picture.
LOL!!! I've seen the chicken one, that really is hysterical... Coming from someone who actually has ADD/ADHD, it is very hard to stay focused with one idea or thought. I'm not totally fluent on the "chemicals in the brain" type reasoning as to why, and it is tremendously hard to try to describe why I do things or think certain ways unless you've experienced it yourself or someone that you are obviously very close with have/has it.
I work in golf apparel sales in the NY/NJ/PA area (people with ADD/ADHD are apt to perform well above average in this type of work) and it is very intense business... The problem is, you almost need someone behind you with a dustpan, so to speak, to clean up administratively, what you begin... It's not laziness, it's... (again, hard to describe), there's just something missing in your mind that causes almost a disconnect to properly put things in their proper place/order...
Trust me, I've tried MANY different short cuts.... a dictaphone, a small notepad to jot things down, strictly becasue the forgetfulness would just get out of hand... And you know what would happen...........? I'd forget the god damn notepad!!! :) I recently (past 6 months or so) began taking adderal, which has actually helped quite a bit. Mostly, in a way where the jumbled pile of thoughts between my ears have found their proper place.
Trust me when I say, I TOTALLY believe that drugs are given to kids quicker than a Pez dispenser in many cases. However, there are definitely a number of people who benefit greatly from them.... JMO :-)
Egg-zackerly!
I could cure him of his "ADD" in a weekend...
Finally! A health professional who recognizes that a healthy child can be very active (and challenging).
Well...keep plugging along with the rest of us here at Freerepublic...we'll all help you to keep your thoughts straight...and to the "right" conservatively speaking!
