We were comparing notes from various threads and sitting here laughing about who we had added. Kept our sanity! :)
Well done!
I'll pile on with a comment of my own...lol.
I have a feeling I would have been tallying and laughing with you!
The Dems succeeded in hijacking the US Senate from the Republicans as a result of 7 traitors and wimply Republican Senate leadership.
Absolutely! And believe me, we would have welcomed your participation! Some days, we were adding as many as 20-30 names. It was wild.
Freepers are conservative, but not necessarily Republican.
I'm not one.
I love what you said. That's so true.
Another thing is that the GOP doesn't agree on every issue. I know I don't want to expel every GOPer who doesn't agree 100% - something like an 85% Conservative rating is the best we can get from some states. That's better than a Liberal 100% rating, for sure.

"They're in complete disarray."
I agree.
And say what anyone will, I don't think this would have happened under Lott's watch. He may not have been able to get everything done, we wanted, but he knew where the bodies were buried and the Republicans wouldn't have dared defy him, as they defied Frist.
Both the Traitor RINOs and the Democrats felt the weakness of the Republican Senate leadership and are taking full advantage.
Can guarantee that -- it was so funny because they kept using the same comments, but some got really nasty with name calling.
"It was the RATS who promised to vote with the majority who did the betraying in this case."
And how stupid did the Republicans had to be to believe them? They were either stupid or knowingly supported the Dems. My opinion is that the latter is true. Nobody can be that stupid.
These people are like taillights
45 good Republicans are good to have when you win five additional good Republican seats.
The "leadership" does a poor job of controlling their members. If you don't become a puppet to the RAT leadership, you are out as far as the RATs are concerned. In this respect, the RATs are better than the Republican'ts.
Frist and the other leaders could make it so that these traitors lose their power. They can withhold key positions and committee positions, but they don't.
Frist doesn't have the leverage to do that. I think it would go something like this;
RINO's to Frist:Ah...Mr. Frist. You seem like a bright guy so this shouldn't take very long to explain. There are 45 Democrats in the senate. Add to that, between 7 to 10 *cough* "moderate" Republicans. Now Mr. Frist, do the math. 45 + 7 = 52. Mr Frist, the first rule of making a threat is to make sure you can back up that threat with leverage. Mr. Frist, you have no leverage over us. We the coalition of DEMS and RINO's control the senate. We are the majority. You, Fristy boy are the minority. Get it?
Frist to RINO's:Um!
The RATs keep their people in line.
The MSM keeps the RATs in line. We're getting close to breaking that though.
Lott? LOL!
When you look at ACU ratings, you will usually see that our lowest Republican is higher then any of the RATs except in rare cases like Ralph Hall in the House from TX who now is a Republican. Some people don't want to acknowledge that we have many voices in the party that don't always agree on everything. I happen to be fortunate to live in Oklahoma where I agree with my Senators close to 100% of the time -- think one time since I moved here I have disagreed with a vote and don't even remember what it was.
Also know not all states are like mine -- lived in MA for nine, miserable months. Only Conservatives I met were Republicans that were stationed at Fort Devins and lived in Groton -- we used to complain to each other and kept our voter registrations in the State we came from. Never had met people so liberal in my life.
It's the general principle of "compromise", most notable in the (IIRC) 1999 "response" to Clinton's SOTU speech; for each new program Clinton suggested, the Republican spokes-critter offered a "Democrat lite" version, rather than simply stating that any of the proposed programs were simply Bad Ideas. Democrat lite is an absolutely unsupportable position, but it's what Republicans usually seem to take.
I burst out laughing with the Lott remark myself! Mr. spineless wouldn't even take Sen Nickles with him to budget negotiations with Clinton when he sold out. He was afraid Don Nickles would speak up -- he was right he would have.
My respect for Lott -- zero, zip, nada. He knew Jeffords was defecting and waited too long to tell the President. Not smart!
What should they have done? Cancelled the cloture vote?
Or perhaps called for the vote, and exposed the lying RATS who were claiming they weren't filibustering but really were, or said they'd vote to end discussion, and then reneged?
The Dems have totally exposed themselves as lying obstructionists who can't be trusted.
You knew they were, and I knew they were........but now everyone paying attention knows they are.
I repeat. It was the RATS who did the betraying. NOT the Republicans.
Wow, 580+ posts on this thread and not a word about Abe Fortas...
I bring up disHonest Abe Fortas, because I am certain it was that rational the (D)s employed to convince themselves that "We are not Filibustering Bolton"
Abe Fortas was indeed formally Filibustered in 1968, despite recent claims to the contrary by (R)s
disHonest Abe Fortas did not pass cloture, that officially made it a filibuster.
The only important difference between his fail and Bolton's is that Bolton had more than 50 votes.
I'm just pointing out that Reids quote: "We do not intend to filibuster Bolton" is similar to the leader of Fortas's filibuster "We did not intend to filibuster Fortas"
May Bolton be Recessed and Judicial Filibusters outlawed.
