"There are many more military types here, but they're currently off at the bar and not reporting in, the slackers."

By the time they're back from the bar, we'll be at the bar getting the women. ;0)

I thought this was a rather odd 'service claim' from DU. LOL.

Good evening, First Sergeant!!!

Mrs. Feckless was a Drill Sergeant?

Boy, have I got a few things to say to her...but, since I still have most of my sanity, I'm going to keep my mouth shut. :)

I'd been out of Basic maybe a year and a half, and I ran into my Drill Sergeant (Technical Sergeant Dwight Frost) at the BX at Nellis AFB. I walked up to him and said, "Hello, Sergeant Frost." He looked at me and said, "If you were one of my trainees, I hate to tell you this, but I don't remember you."

I told him that I knew that he wouldn't - and thanked him for what he did for me.

So - Mrs. Feckless - on behalf of all those trainees that you don't remember - thank you for what you did for us.

"Thank God! Now we know for sure and can finally get a good night's sleep!"

Oh, I wish.

Dad was a double vet - USMC during the Korean War, and USAF (retired as an LtC). I get home for the first time from basic and tech school, mom fixes a great dinner, visit with friends, and then I go to bed. In my bed. In my room. Under my sheets. You probably know the feeling. I pass right out.

Next morning, 5:00 AM. REVEILLE REVEILLE REVEILLE

A friend of dad's plays bugle for the community band - and he's playing it right inside the bedroom door. I roll out of the rack, start looking for my uniform, my boots and hear the Drill Instructor yelling "Get outta bed, move move move!"

After about 30 seconds, I hear them laughing - just having a ball watching me stumble around the room trying to find my gear.

I never got them back for it. It's been almost 21 years now. I doubt they suspect a thing...

Yes they do. They suspect that you will do the same damned thing to your son.

... and laugh you ass off, just like they did.

LOL!

She was a Drill from 89-91, been out since 92 and people still walk up to her in airports and especially on nearby Ft Hood and shake her hand.
