With the Senate scheduled to seek a vote on the president's nomination of John Bolton today, Democrats are threatening a last minute parliamentary maneuver to block the vote.
Yesterday Senator Dodd, a Democrat from Connecticut urged his colleagues to vote against the closing of debate on the floor of the Senate until the State Department provided him and his colleagues with outstanding requests for intelligence on a speech Mr. Bolton was blocked from giving on Syrian proliferation. Mr. Dodd also renewed a request from his party for the names Mr. Bolton requested of American officials in National Security Agency intelligence reports. Names of Americans are redacted in these files and are not disclosed unless requested by a senior official...

So much for the New Age of Senate Moderation.
Such harmony in the Senate..... How wonderful!
Frist can stomp on this new third party--The McCain Backstabbers--by getting the Bolton vote through. I hope he does so as a way of slapping down opposition, but I'm afraid he'll do it to preserve his presidential hopes.
More of the same from Boxer today:

don't you just love the new atmosphere of bipartisanship that the 14 jerks introduced in the Senate?
Welcome to FR!
Or civility among the loving caring fork tongue RATS, OR the mantra of "CAN WE JUST GET ALONG" b.s.!!....McRAT, along with the 6 dwarfs and SOVich are going to make life difficult for years to come! UGHHH! FORGET the majority we're still in the spineless minority party! DANG IT, we worked so hard to give our party majority status and this is the thanks we get...backstabbing SOB RINOS!! :(
Because Bolton would serve only until 2008 (unlike lifetime judges), Bush could easily recess appoint him.
So much for the "trust" the 7 RINO back-stabbing traitors were talking about. It hasn't even been a week, and the RATs are back to their standard operating procedures. Guess they are just asserting their "minority rights". As if we couldn't see this coming. Thanks DeRINO, McQueeg, et al. -- for NOTHING!!!!
In case anyone was wondering what the so-called compromise was worth...
Where are the seven Republican dwarfs when we really need them?
Will one person in the media report that Dodd hates Bolton because Bolton called out his buddy, Fidel Castro? Will Chris Wallace ask this? That Dodd supports a murdering, communist tyrant?
yadayadayadayada
If I was Bush I'd stop all these games with Bolton and simply recess-appoint him at the first opportunity. It's not a lifetime appointment or anything, and Bush only needs him there for three+ years or so.
If the "gang of 14" sticks together I don't see how this maneuver by Dodd is going to work. The moderates agreement does not prevent some senators from acting like a-holes, which it looks like Dodd is doing.
Would this parliamentary maneuver be, per chance, a filibuster?
well why doesn't he?
Compromise really works :(
Oh, I am sure if Senate Republican leader McCain would ask Senate leader Reid, he will go ahead and schedule the vote.
Maybe if he said. "Please". "Pretty Please". "Pretty Please with sugar on it". Yep that will work.
I have not heard any of the Dim 7 quoted on this. This to me is the first real test of the "understanding."
If cloture succeeds tonight at 6, then the deal is still alive. If it does not, it lasted a whole 2 days.
Can't we all just get along together?
