More than 40,000 Iraqi soldiers are to be deployed in Baghdad in a massive operation to hunt down insurgents, the Iraqi defence minister has announced.
Saadoun al-Dulaimi said the force would include troops from the interior and defence ministries.
Correspondents say it would be by far the largest operation against insurgents in Baghdad by Iraqi forces.
Also in Baghdad, seven people have been killed in two separate attacks.
Insurgent attacks on US, Iraqi government and civilian targets have killed about 600 people in May.
Mr Dulaimi said the capital would be split into seven areas of operation, and warned that that security measures would be far more strict that had been seen before.
"We will also impose a concrete blockade around Baghdad, like a bracelet around an arm, God willing. No-one will be able to penetrate this blockade," Mr Dulaimi said.
He said this would be the first phase of a security crackdown that could eventually cover the whole country.

What's that reference? "I came here to chew gum and kick ass, and I'm all out of chewing gum." Help me out here.
ping.
Past forty now...
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum.
Roddy Piper as Nada in John Carpenter's They Live (1988).
I love that flick...
I concur.
He thinks he's clever.
Hopefully it will lead to quieter.
You hit the nail on the head, Mike. But there is, uh, a rather raunchy street way of saying the same thing.
You know, the one where the man says all he has is hard whatever and bubblegum, just chewed his last stick, see where he's coming from?
Now let that marinate...
Seems rdb3 has an echo.
"rbd3"
Are you serious?
Yup.

The fight scene in the alley is classic.
I was drawing a blank on the quote, except for the idea that it might have been Snake Plisskin in Escape from New York, (another John Carpenter flick).
Otherwise, there's going to be a lot of scum scurrying off to Mosul or Fallujah or somewhere.
Let 'em scurry and then lock 'em out!
Well isn't that special? There are no clones here. I thought everyone knew that the mold was broken after I hatched!
Aqua boogie, baby.
LOL!
I know!
Makes me wonder why they chose that particular handle.
So far, they've been largely benign.

Probably coincidence.
When someone registers as Draksheare will can probably assume it was deliberate.
There was one fantasy computer game that I played, where you were tasked with constructing a village while simultaneously defending it from naval and land-based assaults.
I think the concept was that as you finished one stage of completion the medieval village would progressively develop, until you advanced all the way to the period of the Late Renaissance.
To be honest, I don't have the opportunity to play many simulation games, and the only console video games that I see are usually at my sister's house, when I'm playing with my young nephew or niece.
Someone already tried to register as "Darkshear"
