You're calling fits of pique and jealousy "INFLATED EGO" ?

Noooooooooooooo....that's NOT it. The camera hogging, microphone swallowers, who pound their chests like gorillas, weep for the camera, on cue, affect accents they've long ago sloughed off, and believe that they and they alone know what's what, are a different breed.

Peggy has her own affectations ( using 14 year old girl mannerisms, being what is known in female circles as "the be sweet" girl voice, etc. ), which don't fall into the same category at all.

And yes, she IS still a HACK, IMO, but this column was very well well done and true.

She's an idiot...all she could see was the TV glitter and not understand that these 7 morons have taken away the judicial nominations and the Supreme Court.

So she stamped her little foot over the TV glitter.

Peggy is VERY superficial and soggy emotionally.

I am constantly amazed. A conservative values the individual. Values individual thought. Individual opinion.
Yet have another conservative stray off the Party reservation and the howling begins. Not at all dissimilar to the dogmatics of the left.

You don't have to agree with anything Peggy Noonan writes. You don't have to like her style. But the lady surely does have style.

A Peggy Noonan column is never going to be mistaken for anyone else's. And she always makes her point. Her a point. And it is always reasoned. Individually.

I think she may be a conservative. An actual one.

Watch it!! I'm a Peggy Noonan fan.

Me, too. However, she had not been her normal better than the rest self for awhile. She seems to be back on stride.

In keeping with her article, the way to straighten all this phoney baloney out in Congress is to remove the TV cameras. Make them have to sprint outside to tell us how wonderful they are. Maybe a few will get trampled in the stampde.

I don't know if politicians have ever been modest, but I know they have never seemed so boastful, so full of themselves, and so dizzy with self-love.

That's because, in the cases of the 'maverick Republicans, and just about any Democrat, they're continually getting their a$$es kissed by the MSM.

That's a good summation of Noonan. It's funny reading some of the haters here. One mark of a good stylist is he or she writes in an original style that one could notice without even reading their by-line. Noonan was a legitimate part of the Reagan Revolution. That alone is more than any of her haters can say for themselves. Moreover she is a fine stylist. Sure she mentions details that aren't simply on-the-nail--that's called being a writer, and using your writer's eye to bring in other elements that illuminate the subject. I don't understand why people here have a problem with her for doing precisely what an op-ed writer is supposed to do--bring their unique perspective to a subject. People don't have to LIKE her, but she is an accomplished woman who can't be faulted for her writing abilities, unless those complaining about them can point to their books, columns and speeches for Ronald Reagan.

Thank you, Peggy:

Politicians are in politics. They are less self-denying than self-aggrandizing. They are given fame, respect, the best health care in the world; they pass laws governing your life and receive a million perks including a good salary, and someone else--faceless taxpayers, "the folks back home"--gets to pay for the whole thing. This isn't public service, it's more like public command. It's not terrible--democracies need people who commit politics; they have a place and a role to play--but it's not saintly, either.

I don't know if politicians have ever been modest, but I know they have never seemed so boastful, so full of themselves, and so dizzy with self-love.

"Just a few months ago, Peggy Noonan was the devil incarnate around here."

No kidding. Now she's the shiznit. How quickly the kneejerk right forgets.

"I don't know if politicians have ever been modest, but I know they have never seemed so boastful, so full of themselves, and so dizzy with self-love."

And that is a GREAT quote. Noonan isn't always a suckup to the right, but she's always marching with it.

The worst is when they start bloviating about having the "courage to make the hard decisions".

This is as blunt as I have ever seen Peggy, but she is deadly accurate. Even in her bluntness, she has class.

Meanwhile, back on topic:

Love the take on this one. Nails what happened and ties it in to all the other breast-beating loons...

And I believed them, because I am an idiot.

She really had me going there, especially the bit about Byrd selflessly saving the Republic. LOL.

Someone posted a McCain quote on one of the threads yesterday. It was McCain going on and on about how very popular he is and how wonderful he is, and he almost singlehandedly won the election for Bush in '04, blah, blah, blah. I don't remember where it was posted, but I hope someone will post it to this thread.

It's springtime, love is in the air, and 14 senators are gazing at the mirror.

Peggy at her best.
