I work for DoD. The amount of alkaline AA and AAA throwaway batteries needed for a one week mission is bulky and cumbersome. They need rechargeable NiMH AA and AAA cells. Frontline soldiers have chargers that operate from larger batteries and AC sources. Many of the new soldier worn devices and rifle mounted devices are using AA or AAA 1.5 VDC cells. Also send in the Eveready L.91 AA lithium cells. It has twice the operating time of alkaline AA cells and the cell design can cope with the high temperature conditions without swelling and leaking. The reason it is not used widely is unit cost. The rechargeable NiMH and the longer life lithium throwaway AA battery is the better product to send to our Iraqi fighting troops. Spread the word freepers!!
great news and advice ! But where to send????
On a similar subject do you know if there a website to list small businesses that offer discounts to the troops. We know of two businesses who want to show their appreciation to the troops. One happens to be an electronics store.
All that is needed to receive the discount is that the person enter their i.d. in the box, that's it!
As suggested by a fellow FReeper, we tried contacting DoD but never received a response.
Thanks for your help!
