I watched Alton use a propane torch to carmelize some sugar on the top of sliced bananas... it was just like the crust on a creme broulee... so we tried it last night and made banana splits with vanilla and chocolate Dreyers, and strawberries and whip cream. The kids were aghast when I lit the torch in the kitchen and started blasting flaming sugar particles across the counter... LOL.. no injuries reported. They were just awesome. Sugar shock on the hoof.
