"Instead of giving the people that really need the money -- like education, health care, healthy families, the poor people, the blind people -- instead of giving them more money..."
Spoken like a good liberal!

Personally I'd like to see the Cal legisalture meet only every other year.

The voters of California approved this pay raise commission. Not a small detail.

The Governor has two vacancies on that commission that he could appoint to sway the voting. So what's up with that?
To: calcowgirl
Spoken like a good liberal!I disagree. Good liberals don't emphasize their hypocrisy.

Um... it's the taxpayer's money. The money should be spent on things that benefit the taxpayers (much by mandate) and *NOT* a 12% pay raise for the assholes who got us in this financial mess and are obstructionists at getting us out.
Thanks to the Dem legislature, highway construction, expansion and repair is at a virtual standstill because of raids of the funds. They only care about power, not problem solving and thus do whatever they can to keep issues alive for their union backers.

I suppose it seemed like a good idea not to have the legislature voting on their own pay raises. What's shocking is this commission's decisions are not reviewable or subject to veto!

I wouldn't be opposed to giving raises if it'd stop them from taking bribes to supplement their income.. but they'll take the bribes anyway.

You can thank Pete Wilson for this commission that has no reins attached. Not sure why the article didn;t mention him by name, just an oversight , Im sure.

It was one of those stupid "feel good" measures that many "conservatives" supported at the time, but has since come back to bite us in the ass.

Well, they're not "bribes", in the legal sense. Let's just say that if a legislator has a law practice, there is nothing illegal about seeing that he is given fat retainers on multiple cases where he performs little or no work.

Funny, I thought he was pointing out that when the chips are down, no matter what the lefties might SAY they want for the peeps, they are going to look out for themselves first.
I think this statement might have been misrepresented, and possibly misread.
