Who could ever forget the U2 post 911 Halftime Super Bowl show?

""We" are not. I, individually, think that the gushing fashion critique that always accompanies such figures as Bono completely negates any serious consideration of the political posturing of said figure."

So, is there anyone else other than entertainers you would like to silence?

Realize that Bono, as an "artist or writer or musician" pays no tax whatsoever in Ireland.

I'd love to know what he does with his multi-millions, while chiding the rest of the world to cough up dough to deadbeat countries while excusing them of mismanaging/stealing aid.

But they don't really have any control over some idiot reporter thinking its newsworthy to comment on their choice of clothing.

"So, is there anyone else other than entertainers you would like to silence?"

And how does disliking clotheshorse musicians and actors pretense in political matters silence anyone? Hmmm... where have I heard this sort of "logic" before? I speak out against something with which you agree and it is "censorship." Somehow, I don't think you would afford me the same right.

From thee, thine. But not from me, mine.

That is the beauty of free speech. When people open their mouths, they expose who they truly are.

Doesn't Bono have some kind of running gig with the UN?

I don't agree with Bono so much but the man does conduct his life with honesty, style and engagement. I refuse to use the word *passion* since it's such a lame cliché.

I would suggest you not look into this. It might ruin your ability to trash this guy if you knew the truth.

Yes, it is a beautiful thing, free speech. And, guess what? The exposure goes both ways, LOL.

Innuendo, instead of providing backup? Bad form.

"The exposure goes both ways."

So it isn't blinded by desperately clinging so tightly to an ideology that it ignorantly lambaste someone they may happen to disagree with?

A harmless publicity meeting for both people. Bono gets a meeting with Condi Rice and an update on the USG's efforts to stamp out world hunger through the Millenium Project. Rice gets to find out that she still, after all these years, has yet to meet Mr. Right.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Having a bit of trouble teasing your intended meaning out of this sentence, but best I can tell, it sounds like your garden variety "progressive," whenever anyone says "George Bush." It's become a pavlovian trigger phrase for angst-ridden leftists. Is this the ideology to which you refer?

Wha? Why don't YOU enlighten me.

Bono's ass is in a tub of butter a thousand times over; he pays no taxes, which makes him a perfect candidate for philanthropy. Why can't I ask this of this Saint?

"Do you think throwing mud at someone that you do not know is bad form?"

It is a time-honored political pastime. Put yourself in the public eye, comment on issues where there are areas of passionate disagreement, and mud is expected. At least I've never been so childish as to throw an actual pie into the face of someone with whom I've disagreed politically. I'd never muss Bono's smart grey jacket, "trademark" purple shirt, matching smart grey slacks, smart shearling-collared black lambskin jacket or even his matching black slacks. But, "progressives" sure would, if he were ever to dare actually espouse something overtly conservative.

Interesting related story:

Fast-talking rocker BONO was impressed when President GEORGE W BUSH interrupted him mid-flow to get his point across during a debate on the AIDS crisis.

The VERTIGO singer, who works tirelessly to raise awareness of issues affecting the developing world, wouldn't allow President Bush a word in edgeways, forcing him to bang his fist passionately on the table.

Bono says, "He banged the table at me once when I was ranting at him about AIDS drugs. He banged the table to ask me to let him reply. I was very impressed that he could get so passionate. And let's face it, tolerating an Irish rock star is not a necessity of his office."

Source

And to be fair...Bono praised Bush in a CNN interview and seems nonpartisan. He stated:

This is not an issue to play politics with. I know I'm on "Inside Politics," and I wouldn't want to be talking to anyone else right now, but that is our one thing, don't play politics. There's too many people's lives at stake.
He even did an Iraq benefit concert, spoke at length with Paul Wolfowitz about debt issues, and "bonded with" Paul O'Neill on their trip to Africa. Like others have said, he walks the walk...right down the center, it seems to me.

"right down the center, it seems to me."

Look at the causes that he has championed. Not exactly "right down the center."
