Gallup Shock: 69 Percent Oppose Dem Filibusters
An overwhelming majority of Americans agree with Republicans who say President Bush's judicial nominees deserve an up or down vote, according to a Gallup survey released yesterday.
The bombshell survey found that 35 percent "want to see the filibuster rules changed so that those judicial nominees are subject to an up-or-down vote," Gallup said. Thirty-four percent "want to see the filibuster rule preserved" but "would like to see the Senate have an up-or-down vote on those nominees."
Only 19 percent told Gallup that Democrats were right to filibuster judicial appointments, with 12 percent voicing no opinion.
Twenty-four hours after the bombshell poll's release, news that 69 percent of Americans want Democrats to stop filibustering Bush's judicial nominees has yet to be reported by a single major U.S. media outlet.
In another stunning development, a plurality of those surveyed by Gallup - 38 percent - said that Christian influence on the courts was "not enough," while only 27 percent disagreed. Twenty-eight percent said Christian influence on the courts was "about right."
The Gallup survey also found that 29 percent of Americans "think Federal court judges are too liberal" - with just 19 percent saying the judiciary is "too conservative."
I want to know why liberals claim that judges are above criticism all the while they are trashing judges in the Senate confirmation process. I guess it all depends on which judges you are trashing.
Paging Sinator McCain!
A substantial majority of Americans are paying little attention to the debate over the Senate's filibuster rule... After being informed about the issue, 48% of respondents say they favor the Democrats' side and 40% favor the Republicans' side.
Clear majorities of respondents say the Republicans and, separately, the Democrats are acting like "spoiled children" rather than "responsible adults."
However, a majority believes that at least one party is acting responsibly.
This synopsis says absolutely nothing at all, while at the same time says everything there is to say. LOL
Amen! Where was this poll last week?
I hope so. But Americans have demonstrated a very short meomory and attention span.
"Thirty-five percent sided with changing Senate rules, 19 percent agreed on keeping the filibuster, and 34 percent wanted filibuster rules to remain intact but for nominees to receive a full Senate vote."
The way I read it, that means only 19% support the use of a filibuster by the 'Rats to block votes on judicial nominees. Which means the Seven Dwarves COULD be in trouble if Americans can turn away for a few minutes from "Depraved Housewives", the Superbowl, and the World Series and think about the next vote.
Not to be flip, but that's not shocking. It's a given that most Americans want decent people to be treated fairly.
I believe Meyers was supposed to go to the 9th circuit. He has been thrown under the bus as part of the deal brokered the other day.
The libs don't want to add conservatives to that court because it will upset the judicial activism.
I doubt Bush will get to fill the 9th Circus with any conservative.
this is the other big thing withlost because of the Cockroach Republicans---Old Mo.
It's very difficult to build momentum on an issue such as this and, once you finally get rolling with it and make a dent in the public understanding, to have all that pulled out from under you is incredibly stupid.
What the Republicans should do is force the Democrats to filibuster.
Not this current "gentleman's filibuster" but the old-fashioned talk-till-you-literally-drop filibuster with the filibustering Senator reading recipes from a regional cookbook at 3:00 AM when he has nothing more about the subject to say.
I'm sure the American voter will LOVE to see that Democrat circus on C-Span for three weeks.
I would stay up until 3:00 AM just to see Ted Kennedy go into alcohol withdrawl seizures.
She wouldn't take the pay cut. Now maybe if you were talking about the Supreme Court....
THERE IS NO MSM BIAS....... THERE IS NO MSM BIAS..........
Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory -- our moderates, a life's story.
Bet this runs on the front page of all major newspapers, wanna bet?
Who says they figured it out? :)
They ain't that bright.
No surprise here. I know the libs and the mainstream meadia are becoming irrelevant though. The fact that 69% of us feel this way tells you that the libs are losing on every count in spite of their best efforts. America is fed up with them.
THANK YOU FOR THIS POST, this has been DRIVING ME CRAZY FOR YEARS!!! How can this POSSIBLY be called a filibuster??? I feel like I've been in a parallel universe or something. MAKE 'EM TALK for heaven's sake!! Why is that such a hard concept?
