You should see Roman Polanski's movie with John Finch, it is by far the best Macbeth ever.

Othello with Lawrence Fishburn and Kenneth Brannaugh, Hamlet with Mel Gibson, Hamlet with Kenneth Brannaugh, and Merchant of Venice with Al Pacino are excellent films...

I am just waiting for someone to do the Tempest. Shakespeare is perfect to use as a movie script, instead of the literary garbage that passes for art today...

I have to look for Roman Polanski's Macbeth. I don't think I've seen it. I have seen Hamlet with Kenneth Brannaugh, but not the others. I heard that Hamlet with Mel was exceptionally good. I'll have to check them out. Tempest would be interesting. Have you seen 'O'? Kind of an exception between good films and modern films. A take on Othello set in our modern day involving college students, some of them basketball players. It stars Julia Stiles, Mekhi Phifer & Josh Hartnett. Although not done in a Shakespearean way, it was remarkable! Riveting, right to the end, even if one was familiar with Othello, which I suspect some of the audience was not.
