Good.
I can sense that some take great delight in seeing this woman indicted. As a former prosecutor, I can tell you that this is a pretty chickens#&t indictment.
Aside from the sums spent in the search effort -- please tell me who was harmed here? It's a victimless crime.
At a time when there are real crimes (e.g., rape, murder, robbery) being committed across the country, our collective focus needs to be placed on those quarters that deserve our attention.
The plague of sexual predators stalking our children is but one example.
In the end, this woman will likely make a plea -- and receive a misdemeanor. In the end, much ado about nothing.
Focus your attention on something that really matters.
Is it really good that this evidently frightened, immature, woman has been indicted?
Now her apparently well-to-do family will ante up for some high priced lawyers, and the prosecutors will, in their turn, spend plenty of taxpayer money doing their thing, and knowing that they will be in the national news spotlight, they will give this trifle plenty of personal attention, possibly giving more important matters less than their due.
And should the unfortunate woman be found guilty of a crime and be incarcerated, which is, I admit, unlikely, community service would be more probable, but if, as I say, she goes to jail, and the taxpayers bear a little more burden, when that money would certainly be better spent if it were never paid in taxes, then how, exactly, will society be better off by this ridiculous prosecution?
If it were possible for her to be brought before a judge, one with wisdom and mercy, who would try to make her aware of the gravity of what she had done,(and examine the factors which led her to do it) and then, before her family and members of her community, ask her to apologize, and have her apology to all who were directly involved, without the media spotlight, then I would agree with you that prosecution would be a good thing. However, as things now stand, this matter will be another that will bring shame on America's legal system, and give society no benefit at all.
