I believe the latter is the case. None of the gang of seven are part of the GOP leadership in the Senate and more often than they should, vote with the Dems. This is their way of asserting their limited power in much the same way that Jeffords became disaffected. McCain should remember that he holds a committee chairmanship because the GOP is in power and not the minority. These guys are not team players.
Rush will never go satellite.
Here in SC (specifically the upstate where Graham is from), Graham is getting the thrashing of his life! He said back a few months ago when this crap all started that he would do no less then vote for up or down votes! He lied flat out and he has more then likely seen his last term in office. He has compromised his soul and it will not be the last time he has to do it to appease the liberal devil!
As long as that's true, he might still have a political future.
Judge Bork is against the constitutional option.
I believe you are spot on.
Sean should have told Graham that we know that each will get an up or down vote on the floor as per the agreement but that doesn't mean that the Reps didn't make a deal to vote against them. Graham himself said it's the vote on the nominee that counts. That's were the deals were made.
Watch the 7 dwarves: they'll kill the rest of the nominees either in committee or on the floor.
It will be interesting to see how many judicial nominees are torpedoed in committee by Graham and DeWine.
I still don't understand why Frist doesn't put the judges up, then make the Dems actually do a real filibuster, shut the govt down and have video of them holding up the Govt business only to stop an up/down vote...THEN after letting them stew in their mess for awhile release the "nuclear option"...Am I missing something about Frist's power or the technical issues? I'm betting the dems wouldn't even actually DO the filabuster to keep the option open for the Supreme Court..if so...put through all the judges then, right before the Supreme Court fight...release the nuke.
It SEEMS an obvious chess move, but perhaps I have missed something?
"...and at this point all judges will get a vote."
ALL Judges? Saad included? Or just the three in the Munich Pact?
LOL....Susan Collins?
All I can think of when I hear Frist is that he sounds exactly like Jeff Foxworthy, the Senator.
Frist up now. Says he's "not very satisfied".
Darn straight. From the text of the "Filibuster Agreement - Part 2, section B:"
"We believe that, under Article II, Section 2, of the United States Constitution, the word Advice speaks to consultation between the Senate and the President with regard to the use of the Presidents power to make nominations. We encourage the Executive branch of government to consult with members of the Senate, both Democratic and Republican, prior to submitting a judicial nomination to the Senate for consideration."
In other words, these ass-clowns in the Senate want to subvert the Constitution, and select the judges themselves, instead of the President.
I have been getting multiple calls. My standard reply is that I willl make no donations until I see Bush's judges confirmed and action to severely restrict illegal entry across our borders, North and South!
I will now add: and until Senator McCain is officially censured by the Republican Party!
he is lying!!!!!!!!! He should be expelled from the party. Graham is a weak man, with no respect for the Consitution.
Frist: "The principle is crystal clear, that judicial nominees deserve up or down votes."
We're the other 48 Republican Senators' votes disenfranchised by these seven?
"Graham is getting the thrashing of his life!"
I love it!!! Keep it going. We in Louisiana have to deal with our own sell-out - Mary Landrieu. Louisiana is one of the most PROLIFE States in the Union, and she's not going to get away with putting her name on this "Deal."
