Hilary Clinton: 'U.S., Israel share values'

U.S. Senator Hilary Clinton provides support for Israel during speech at AIPAC conference; says Europe must label Hizbullah as terror organization

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton gave unflinching support to Israel, the disengagement plan and U.S. Army soldiers in Iraq in a speech Tuesday that some said could be a blueprint for a presidential run.

Clinton, a New York Democrat, received sustained applause from 5,000 members of the pro-Israel lobby group AIPAC for equating support of the Jewish state to support for American values.

In fact, much of her speech echoed the theme pressed by AIPAC during the three-day conference: “Israel. An American Value.”

“There are deep and lasting bonds between the U.S. and Israel,” Clinton said. “These are more than shared interests. They are bonds forged in a common struggle for human rights and freedom, bonds that predate the creation of the state of Israel, and even the creation of the U.S.”

She said people in the Middle East should look to Israel if they want to see what democracy looks like.

'A tremendous risk'

Clinton steered clear of overtly political or specific issues in her talk, but called on the Palestinian Authority to end incitement, hatred and anti-Semitism in its schoolbooks. She described use of such material as tantamount to “child abuse.”

She said Israel’s disengagement plan from Gaza is a “tremendous risk” that must be supported.

She said Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, who is due in Washington for meetings with President George W. Bush on Thursday, must “dismantle the structures of terror the Palestinian leadership has employed for so long.”

Abbas must be held responsible, Clinton said.

“As Israel’s democratic government takes these steps (toward disengagement), and we support them, there has to be reciprocity on the other side as well,” she said.

Funding for Islamic Jihad, Hamas must be severed

Cinton said a nuclear-armed Iran would be unacceptable, not just to Israel and the U.S., but to the entire world.

She said Europe must be convinced to designate Syrian-backed Hizbullah of Lebanon as a terrorist organization, which European countries have been reluctant to do.

Europe must also work to cut off funding for Islamic Jihad and Hamas, she said.

Clinton, whose one-time embrace of Suha Arafat angered Jewish communities, has worked from before her 2000 election as a U.S. senator from New York to mend ties with and show support for Israel and Jewish causes.

New York has America's largest Jewish population, nearly 10 percent of the state's 19 million residents.

Clinton has built up a large warchest for her 2006 re-election bid, and has said she is not now running for U.S. president. However, Democratic and political eyes have been on her from the first day she and former President Bill Clinton announced their move to a suburb of New York City upon the ending of his eight years as president in early 2001.

I might add, very successfully. So far, she is flawless, except for the little campaign matter.

Child abuse??? More like teaching kids to murder, IMO.

Remember the picture of Hilary Hildebeasteh kissing arab-fat's wife Shuah immediately after she had proclaimed that Israel was trying to poison arab children with chewing gum the children had stolen from Israeli candy shops? And this is what the Jews will vote for come 2006? Shame!

What a hypocrite!

That and much, much more. She will spend three years citing the OBVIOUS. Talk about total irrelevance...mixed with a Marxist lust for power and control.

Well, with RINOs like McCain trying to sink the function of the Senate, who knows where this country is going???

I wonder what it feels like to take a deep breath, and let out an 8-year-long string-of-lies about what you believe in? You have to start with an awful lot of hot air to be able to do that.

I think you are correct. I guess she forgot that handy little phrase during the speech.

Oh, they ARE having problems with her. DU has posts now and then on her. Her phony attempt to appear centrist fools no one, not even DUmmies. But while we loath her for the attempt, DUmmies for the most part think she is betrying leftist/progressive goals.

Before she became a candidate for the U.S. Senate from New York, Hillary Clinton justified attacks upon Israeli citizens by Hamas and other Arab terrorists. She also attacked the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin for deporting some terrorists from Israel and jailing others.

Before becoming a candidate for the senate Mrs. Clinton chaired an Arab committee which held a reception for all ambassadors accredited to the United States in Washington, D.C. She found no fault with the exclusion of Israel from that reception.

Before she became a candidate, Mrs. Clinton broadcast a message to an Arab convention held in Switzerland in which she expressed her support for the Arab cause against Israel and spoke with vehemence for the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Before she ran for the Senate, Mrs. Clinton kissed and embraced Mrs. Suha Arafat when that woman revived the Nazi canard that the Jews were poisoning the drinking water. This was applauded with great fervor by the Secretary General of the Arab League Esmat Abdul Meguid. As a reward for her efforts on behalf of the enemies of Israel and the Jewish people, the United Arab Emirates gave Hillary Clinton a prize on May 12, 1998. That, of course, was before she became a candidate for a senate seat from New York.

Yet, even after becoming a candidate Mrs. Clinton found it convenient to accept a large financial contribution from her Arab friends who of course hope she will be elected to the Senate so she can use her influence against Israel. We need to ask this question: “Why should any Senator from any state support Israel in the future if a Senator from New York is opposed to the survival of Israel?”

Of course Hillary is not only a friend of the Arab enemies of the Jewish people. She also considers Al Sharpton her friend. Now, those of you who don’t know who Al Sharpton is may want to hear this. Sharpton is an Afro-American “civil rights” leader who says that Jews exploit other New Yorkers. Sharpton also holds rallies outside of Jewish business establishments denouncing Jews. Sharpton is a major force in promoting anti-Jewish sentiment in New York City. Now it will be argued that Mrs. Clinton is not the only enemy of Israel in the Clinton administration. That is true. For example, Martin Indyk, American ambassador to Israel, can find nothing right with that country. His appointee, Joseph Zogby, calls Israel a “monster” and Jews a disease. Likewise other ex-Jews such as our secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, find everything wrong with Israel and consistently side with the 187 million Arabs who seek Israel’s destruction.

We Jews have reason to pride ourselves for our great contributions to science, to the arts and to technology. We have an enormous number of Jewish Nobel Prize winners. Many other Jews, despite our small numbers, have contributed to the theater, to journalism and to philanthropy. There is only one area of human endeavor in which we Jews have always been deficient. That area is politics and self preservation. Consider this. Suppose a candidate for the U.S. Senate associated herself with organizations who denounce Afro-Americans and call blacks a “disease” and serves as honorary chair of a group which distributes anti-black literature. Surely, all the Jews in New York would refuse to have anything to do with such a racist since we are of course all “liberals”. Yet, Jews say they are voting for Hillary. Here we have the same phenomenon we had in Germany in the 1930’s. The German Jews, in face of Hitler, said "I am A German. I will leave the fatherland with the last train." Well they did. They left with the last trains to Auschwitz, Dachau and Neuengamme.

Somehow we Jews never learn. Read again that dramatic little book by Wiesel called “Night.” There Wiesel describes how a Polish Jew came to Wiesel’s native town in Romania and warned the Romanian Jews concerning the fate of the Polish Jews who were even then murdered in gas ovens by the millions. The Romanian Jews did not want to hear that. They preferred to believe that they would yet be welcome in their home country and escape the Nazi threat. In the end they too ended in Auschwitz.

My friends, think what you are about to do. Do you really want an opportunist in the Senate who has such a long history of anti-Jewish conduct? Let us at least this time vote in our own interest and ignore the representative of the Arab League. She doesn’t need the Jewish vote. She has the Arab vote. That should be enough, shouldn’t it?
