While we are on the subject. What is in the newest movie that calls for the PG13 rating? My son has seen the previous movies with us at home. He wants to see the new one. The rating has given me some concern. If the movie is the same as the others than I won't have a problem taking him. Is there something really bad added that got the 13 rating?
A little more violent and darker than the previous two.
I have seen it. There is only one really questionable sequence, where there are repeated views of a badly burned Anakin. If your child understands that you will be covering their eyes in this scene, then there really is nothing wrong (IMO), with this film. Everything is inferred, then spoken about.
Several cuttings off of arms and heads (which other SW movies have also had); at one point an implied murder (without showing the actual deed) of children, and later a vague look at a child's corpse. Those were what seemed worst to me.
Also there is a woman who has a traumatic child birth.
You see Darth Vader go evil. He beheads (off-camera) Darth Siduous' old apprentice. He takes the lead in the extermination of the Jedi - including little kids (although that, also, takes place off camera).
Probably most distrubing of all, you watch Darth Vader catch fire in a volcanic eruption.
How old is your son? Can he handle the realization that Anakin Skywalker is not being glorified, but that he is, rather, a tragic hero falling from grace?
Whats your definition of "bad"?
The real question is how old is your son. I have a 10 year old who I let see the movie and he was fine with it. I would not let my 7 year old little girl see it. She is too sensitive. It all depends on your child and how you think they can take a PG13 movie. You know your child. If your child saw Daredevil, the Hulk, or the last Spiderman movie and was OK afterwards, he will probably be OK with this installment of Starwars.
While there is one questionable scene, my own two boys saw the movie (with Mom and Dad) on Sunday. In my opinion, unless the child is VERY sensitive, I really don't see a problem.
Other posters have spoken about the scenes which probably caused the PG-13 rating, so I won't reiterate them here.
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, as did hubby and the kids.
No matter what you decide, though, I'm sure it will be the right choice for your son.
Regards,
PS: If your boy saw the Spiderman movies or Jurassic Park, he won't have any trouble with this one.
Just a lot of intense battle scenes...one intense "burning scene" on a lava planet(don't want to spoil it for you)
