The Wrath of John McCain (2000 South Carolina GOP Primary Loss Comes to the Fore)
The American Thinker ^ | 5/24/05 | Dennis Savakis

In A scene from 'Star Trek II-The Wrath of Khan,' Ricardo Montalban, playing the title role, steals a line from Moby Dick when he vows from the depths of hell to seek vengance against William Shatner's Captain Kirk by howling, 'With my last breath, I spit at thee; for hate's sake I stab at thee!'

This is not a far cry from Senator McCain's approach in seeking his retribution against President Bush for his February 2000 defeat in the South Carolina GOP Presidential Primary.

A defeat claimed to have derailed the 'Straight Talk Express' candidacy and to have been the result of dirty underhanded smearing by pollsters and persons unknown, but attributed (by McCain) to Bush supporters.

Senator McCain is having his revenge gazpacho served nice and cold, as it has been said, it is most tasty. And most spiteful it is. Farther reaching than most will imagine.

For the power of the Presidency, is diminshed when the Consitutionally mandated appointment power of the President is left subject to the whims of the minority party.

These Republicans now appear even more hapless than before the procedural compromise, while Democrats, with their slash and burn tatics, emerge from the conflagration unscathed.

And all the while McCain is better positioning himself as a 'noble and effective conciliator.' The man to 'heal our wounds,' bring us together in bliss, make the lion lie down with the lamb, and usher him into the White House-with Republican and Democratic votes.

For after this episode, I cannot imagine any red blooded Republican casting their vote his way even if McCain was running for dog catcher.

I think McCain's health issues will probably preclude him from making a serious bid anyway...

This article seems a bit of a stretch.

Bah on McCain. Wish he and Specter would come out and crossover to the demoncRATS since both cater to them on a whim. Both are gutless wonders.

I think his retribution campaign started before that. He has been out for revenge ever since the Keating thing. We need to get him out of there.

Time to go to the mattresses and send Jeb up from Florida to take McLame out in the primaries?

Damn. This quote was actually going to be the theme of my upcoming super-rant. So much for originality.

That line is originally from Moby Dick.

The Manchurian Candidate didn't have a chance even before these latest antics.

Let's call it like we see it.... McLame won.

Bush, Frist, lost. It's as simple as that.

WE lost.

I vote we saw off Maine and let it float out to sea!

McInsane wants the spotlight, as usual. This is his last gasp on the national stage and his tatics probably won't work to boot!

Still kicking around out there. It must be having an impact. McCain only won reelection in 2004 by 55 percentage points.
