(Bridgeport-AP, May 24, 2005 6:35 AM) _ A Bridgeport jury says a Dunkin' Donuts shop must pay more than one hundred thousand dollars to a customer wounded during a robbery.
Fifty-four-year-old Vincent Belletto of Trumbull was awarded $117,000 yesterday.
He was sipping a cup of coffee outside the doughnut shop on Main Street in Bridgeport on December eighth of 2000 when he was shot in the chest with a shotgun.
The jury agreed with Belletto that the owner of the doughnut shop allowed a dangerous condition outside the shop.
The doughnut shop's former general manager admitted that exterior lights on one side of the building were not turned on at night to dissuade loitering.
Scrappleface?
Sadly, no.
If the lighting was so bad, then what the hell was he standing there for?
Sigh. But really, the jurors are FOR small business. They don't think that this will discourage the franchise owner or that these costs would be passed to the consumer.
Because after all, if the lights were out, the jury feels that the shooter bears no responsibility.
Is there any wonder why there's so much violence? Gosh, if you excuse the perp and blame someone who supposedly has money, the violence has paid off for the perp. (sarcasm off)
This is a joke, right?
Yes and having a cash drawer is another dangerous act, If the coffee shop didnt keep money on the premises there would be no reason for armed robbery.
This is the kind of insanity that Judge Brown does not tolerate and that's why the Dems hate her.
Hmm, I wonder if this would set a precedent regarding a business posting a sign prohibiting the lawful carrying of a concealed handgun.
The business has provided a "dangerous condition", banned lawful concealed carry. If a CCW was to be injured they might have a case to take the business owner to court on.
Semper Fi
Oh, no, that's a special case. We wouldn't want to interfere with peoples' "property rights" (I have a hard time typing that phrase with a straight face) so long as they're using them to keep the other sheeple disarmed.
Does CT law allow businesses to post "firearm banned" signs?
I was looking at campgrounds to visit in CT.
I read the "rules and regulations" of at least three places and the only one campground bans firearms.
It's Strawberry Park in Preston. This one is near the casinos.
Anyone know any details about this, the why, or whether they can do this.
