It was actually a special on instead of The Abrams report. I decided I really like Graham. Maybe he is a good talker but tonight he convinced me that really its not all bad. And he said Bolten will get a vote and be approved.

The dems knew they would loose the vote on Tuesday. This is a stalling tactic to buy them time until the next elections in 2006. Then they hope to pickup a seat or two, and then they can beging their fillibustering for real. I am going to write a nasty-gram to my 2 senators even though they weren't part of this. What a shame.

"We just got three who aren't"
And what price are you willing to pay for this?
The point is that we'd have had them if the GOP had the guts a s a party to make a real stand. Why compromise when you can have it all? These US Senators are all wimps. I still haven't had on person rise to challenge me as I have slammed them for not hitting the TV, radio and streets. Nor has anyone had anything to say about the RNC Chairman's lack of visibility. All he has is a 9-5 job.
Mark my words. The next US Supreme Court Justice will make Souter look like a conservative.
Maybe Frist has the wherewithal to pull out a victory.

I don't think you get it. If the dems wouldn't have had the votes tomorrow night they would have punted. They would have approved cloture on Owen and there is nothing the republicans could have done to bring up the filibuster ending option. I have no doubt that they would have saved the nuclear option for a supreme court nominee.
To: El Gato
not all dems will vote for cloture...keep it stealthy and make sure that at least 41 Republicans don't vote for Cloture...that should be easy enough...Who cares if they reverse their positions...its time to take the gloves off

Not a bad reach...but still a reach. I say, when you have the win, WIN. There was no need to compromise tonight. I'm not as upset as some are at the "deal", but I'm upset it ever got to a deal.

And that day would be...
To: matymac
This comes from the compromise:
"Future Nominations. Signatories will exercise their responsibilities under the Advice and Consent Clause of the United States Constitution in good faith. Nominees should only be filibustered under extraordinary circumstances, and each signatory must use his or her own discretion and judgment in determining whether such circumstances exist."
Does this look like a victory to anyone here? This simply means that the GOP will continue to compromise in the area of pro-life and gay marriage.
This is no compromise at all.
The GOP stabbed to Christian conservatives in the back tonight. We used to be their core. Mark my words: It's over.

This just delays the constitional option until the democrats filibuster one of Bush's nominees. All the blame should be directed to the RINO's that signed this agreement with the democrats. However, the day will come that these RINO's will have to vote on the constitutional option and that is what Chief RINO MCAIN did not want to do. So let's not blame the whole Republican Party for the actions of a few.

But until the Pubbies advance, they won't burn the village ...

Don't be a CINO (Conservative in Name Only)
Don't listen to CINO's in politics,
the Main Stream CINO media,
and even here on Free Republic.
Remember all who told you not to worry about klintoon, hitlery and reno
after the 2000 election?
Remember all who said Ashcroft would prosecute them.
Remember Chinagate, Pardongate, Waco, Vince Foster, the Jewish town in NY etc., etc., etc. ?
Well reno ran against Jeb Bush and hitlery wants to beat Hanoi Kerry in 08
Are YOU willing to listen to the CINO's again?

Been ther already, have the t-shirt. They did not promise to not force the constitutional option. The RINOs agreed to not SUPPORT that option. We lost. The RINOS pledged not to end the filibuster. That means the SCOTUS is in jeapordy. That's what this wrangle has been about.... You and I see it differently, Les Mis. Maybe instead of compromise I should have used the term "apparently reasonable solution" since that's what it seems like to me. I still stand by my original point that a solution that enrages both the far left and the far right stands a good chance of being a good one.
To: jsk10
But we didn't have a win, win. The dems would not have filibusted tomorrow and that would put the filibuster ending option off until they actually did filibuster anyone. They would have waited for a supreme court nominee.
To: AlGone2001
As I say, it's clear you're missing a little military strategy. And it is about winning, both in the long run and ths short. We already have the short run.
P.S. Custer thought he was winning for about 10 minutes.

Bush and Frist retain the high ground and the options as we vote to confirm judge after judge.
Darth McFarce defines himself as a quisling unworthy of the nomination in 2008.
Harry Reid and Robert Byrd sign a contract for this summer in the Catskills.
Pretty pretty pretty. . . .
