Centrists from both parties reached a compromise Monday night to avoid a showdown on President Bushs stalled judicial nominees and the Senates own filibuster rules, officials from both parties said.

No, he isn't the best we can do. He's the best we can elect. His popularity ratings hover around 70%, consistently.
We can still elect Republicans but....this is not Goldwater's AZ anymore.
Why can't we figure out a way to get rid of political parties altogether? Why do we need them?
WOW -- You're good at that. Thanks.
I watched Linsey Gramhm on Hardball tonight and he calmed me down totally. This was the dems caving, one night early. Some of them would have voted for cloture tomorrow and that would have done the same thing as the deal.
The nuclear option couldn't have been implemented unless the dems had 40+ votes against cloture.
Good. Let them gnaw on each other all night. I'm going now to email all 50 Senators again and tell them what I expect from this, and then e-mail judicial committee again, and bury them in snail-mail if I have to, and keep pushing while the DU foams at the mouth and wallows in the floor. :)
I can't see this as anything but a win for the Dems because they had everything to lose. Seeing Byrd up there just really did me in. Just wait until the Supreme Court battle comes up where it will become imperative to find a solid conservative replacement for Renquist. I suppose nothing stops them from changing the rules then provided the 7 Republicans who just couldn't help play nice don't try it again.
The Dims probably have a back door deal to nominate one of the two empty positions. Watch and see if there is one conservative appointed and one friend of Ruthie.
Linsey Graham said tonight that he keeps the right to vote for the nuclear option. He did not give that up.
It fragments into many small parties you get failing coalition style governments such as post war Italy, I guess. Then la raza and cair will have as much power as you.
I am tired of this. As of yet we have no judges on the bench, not one. The RINOS can bolt on their vote and the Dems will vote no. Then what happens? Quit counting what we don't have.
We just got three who aren't
Yup. I'm done. They just sealed the deal.
oops! all 50 STATES' Senators - it's late in Georgia y'all
I don't watch Hardball, but I will watch the rerun tonight. Thanks for the info, and I hope he can say something that will make me feel better about him. Many of us in SC do not like John McCain, and I wish Lindsey would stop being his lapdog. People outside SC believe we mistreated McCain in 2000, but it is my opinion, McCain misjudged and mistreated the people of SC when he self-imploded and defeated himself.
Been ther already, have the t-shirt. They did not promise to not force the constitutional option. The RINOs agreed to not SUPPORT that option. We lost. The RINOS pledged not to end the filibuster. That means the SCOTUS is in jeapordy. That's what this wrangle has been about....
