To compromise with the democrats means they will betray your good will at election time as they did President Bush's father over taxes.

True. Anyone know if the UFO party has a conservative wing?
To: Kenny Bunkport
In another eight minutes, I'll learn whether I'll ever give another dime to the Republican Party. I figured that out years ago.

As predicted the GOP caves. Whatever it is ANY compromise is a defeat for our side.
This just may turn the Senate over in 06.

Hopefully, it is nothing more than they all agree to vote for cloture and proceed under regular order to vote on the Owen nomination, thereby preserving the fiction that they can filibuster later on if they so choose. If it is something we give up that should not be given up, if we snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, the Repubs will rue the day.
To: RobFromGa
Unless the Dems stand down on this and all other future judicial filibusters, I don't see how this can be a "win" for the GOP. They should not allow the Dems the ability to filibuster future nominations, especially Supreme Ct. nominations.
To: Always Right
Yeah with real statesmen like Howard Dean representing the democrats I can see how compromise would be the right call here.

The media has been misreporting this story all along. I'll also wait.
To: jern
Any compromise on THIS issue is SURRENDER.

Republican and Democrat Senators will come together and explain, they say that there will be votes on "as many current nominees as possible" and the filibuster will only be used in "extraordinary" cases.
If they agree to not go nuclear in the future, they are going to enrage the base.
