If Frist does not win the cloture vote, he would seek a ruling of the presiding officer that further debate was dilatory. If the Senate sustained such a ruling by majority vote, then the filibuster-ending threshold would be lowered from 60 to 51.

Is this true?

I assumed that the nuclear option would simply "outlaw" judicial filibusters. This sounds like a change to the cloture rule. I think the article is wrong.

Frist's proposed filibuster rule change would apply only to nominations, not to legislation.

It's right there in the article. Hello?!

The GOP leadership spends too much time in the beltway. They need to go back home and listen to the voters that put them in office.

Great post in its entirety, CD. And you get an 'Amen' from me on that last sentence.

You missed my point.

The nuclear option only applies to judicial nominations. That is perfectly true.

The question is: how does it apply. You could, for example, reduce the requirement for a cloture vote form 60 to 51 for judicial nominations as suggested in the article or you could simply not allow filibustering at all for judicial nominations. It is one or the other. I think it is the latter. The author of the article apparently thinks it is cloture vote change.

My husband and I called the Republican National Committee at 202-863-8500 SEVERAL times to tell them we won't contribute to them. If the #1 comment line is full, call again and press the #3 media line, and you will get a real person.

However, we still contribute to pro-life, conservative candidates individually.

Don't be a CINO (Conservative in Name Only)
Don't listen to CINO's in politics,
the Main Stream CINO media,
and even here on Free Republic.

Remember all who told you not to worry about klintoon, hitlery and reno
after the 2000 election?

Remember all who said Ashcroft would prosecute them.

Remember Chinagate, Pardongate, Waco, Vince Foster, the Jewish town in NY etc., etc., etc. ?

Well reno ran against Jeb Bush and hitlery wants to beat Hanoi Kerry in 08

Are YOU willing to listen to the CINO's again?

"Sorry to disagree with you. Go sing Kumbaya elsewhere.

You should have given that advice to Senator "Don't Make Me Push the Button" Frist. Now he can return the cots to the same undisclosed location that houses the lock box where his balls are stored.

If filibustering judicial appointments causes hair to fall out, then it should be banned.
