A playground beckons from the end of his street and it's a lovely day for a roll in the grass, but that's one trick too many to ask of a dog confined to a wheelchair. ``He's a trooper. He deserves the best and I'm trying my best to give it to him,'' said Patricia Foye of Brockton, whose year-old paraplegic yellow Lab ``Suga'' just may be the poster pup for a new breed of litigation: wronged pets.

I agree. I'm really attached to my dogs but there are too many healthy dogs/cats being put down in shelters to spend big bucks on keeping a maimed animal alive - have a good cry and move on. But then, I was a farm girl . . . never made pets of future meals even after scratching their heads when feeding them 'cause I knew I'd be eating them.

This will be acceptable when veterinarians make the same amount of money for surgical procedures as do physicians. As for now, veterinarians make between ten to a hundred times less for procedures than an M.D. would get for the same.
