I have to plead ignorance here. Can you fill me in as to the meaning of "post modernism?"

I hear the term used in the art world, of which I am now a part, but actually don't know its meaning.

I am certainly no expert, but post modern philosophy follows the idea that there is no absolute, truth no all encompasing principles. Words mean what the user wants them to mean. We arived here by way of modern philosophy which generally desribes a possible truth but that truth is not defined by God or a higher power but by man's ability to reason and thus defined by man.
