Mexico City -- Fernando Suarez del Solar feels a sense of urgency about the war in Iraq -- and not just because he lost his only son there two years ago.
It is his duty, he says, to warn young Latinos about the perils of joining the U.S. military and becoming, like his son, a "green card Marine," lured by promises of a college education, post-service career and fast-track citizenship.
Three years ago, President Bush offered accelerated citizenship to any green card holder who has served in the military since Sept. 11, 2001.
Instead, the bereaved father tells would-be recruits, they could wind up like Marine Lance Cpl. Jesus Suarez, killed at age 20 after he stepped on an unexploded cluster bomb in March 2003, during the first week of the war.
"Immigrants are generally the first on the front lines," Suarez said. "They should know where they'll end up."
While there is no way to confirm the truth of that assertion,

They want free tacos, just let the white boy do the paying.
I cannot tell how astonished I have been in reading about the jerks who just went into the service for an education and were "shocked!" when they were called up to fight.
What the heck did they think the rifles were for? Bookmarks?

--> Yes, and they think the bullets are special invisible ink markers that come in different sizes. ;)
First, I do not believe that Fernando-the Dad-is a citizen of the US. To see his rant, go to

Dad is hooked up with Indymedia.

"The father of Marine Lance Cpl. Jesus Suarez del Solar was a native of Tijuana, Mexico, who brought the family to the United States in 1997 to fulfill his sons wish to become a Marine.
Suarez enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2001 after graduating from Valley High School in Escondido, Calif. He was killed in combat March 29."
Son went into the Marine Corps to be respected among his peers. War is not a "do-over" type of activity. If he had survived, he would have been respected as one who faced danger and did not run. But, like a Coors ad which is directed at rodeo contestants says" No scars-no stories".
Fernando has been out there on the Anti-War Trail ever since his son was killed. He is "Old news".
What's the father's message 'Better to stay a weback leech than behave like a man'?
While I sympathize with the father's grief; I'd bet that his son would feel shamed by his father's words and behavior. His son died acting as honorably as he knew how. His father is a dupe of anti-Americans and a dope.
Suarez' wife of nearly a year, Sayne, said her husband wanted to fight in Iraq to prevent an attack on the United States.
"He always told us that he would rather go over there so that those people don't come here and hurt us," said Sayne, who said she was notified of her husband's death Friday by two Marines. "I love him and we're very proud of him."

Dear Sirs,
My name is Fernando Suarez del Solar, father of Jesus A. Suarez Del Solar Navarro, and I write to you with eagerness to thank you for the beautiful words in honor of my son, my AZTEC WARRIOR.http://www.fallenheroesmemorial.com/oif/profiles/solarjesusasuarezdel.html
I don't know what the law is on the subject but if I were Lord of the Realm Who Must Be Obeyed.... when you enlist you would automatically receive citizenship. Seems fair
What if the new US citizen claims to be gay after a month in the military?
"What if the new US citizen claims to be gay after a month in the military?"
Don't care.....a non-issue to me
He is a foreign national, here illegally, acting against the US war effort and against good order within the military. We may be stuck with the Fondas and Moores but not this creep. It would be fitting to note that his own actions very literally put his son to be in harm's way - maybe that is what has him so agitated.
As I thought, your's was not a serious proposal.
Yep, Arab immigrants attacked New York.
I believe the law expedites the process of becoming a citizen only after they have served honorably. And yes, this seems fair to me as well. If someone is willing to fight for America, they deserve citizenship. There are few greater ways for immigrants to show their love and loyalty to America than to volunteer in the service.
Ah but it was......I am just not as homophobic as you appear to be....as long as someone ain't hitting on me....none of my business
Hmmmm . . I wonder who is homophobic or . . well, nevermind.
I said nothing about being against gays. It just so happens that the law is "Don't ask - Don't tell" to be in the military. You said if you were the great poobah that you would bestow citizenship on anyone upon enlistment. As far as I know, enlistment is day one. I ask you again, what happens to the new enlistee who tells his drill sergeant in the middle of basic training that he or she is gay? Would they still be a US citizen after they receive a discharge for telling?
If he told the drill sargeant as a ploy to get out....citizenship revoked....thus sayeth the Poobah. However, could I restate the instant citizenship to have a clause requiring succesful completion of military service, barring any discharge for a medical reason or equal no-fault of the serviceman thing
