I do not necessarily agree with the tactic either, especially as it is presently adjudicated. But, until the confiscation of assets is ruled unconstitutional, and that ruling upheld by the USSC, we're stuck with it.
So as long as it remains a weapon in the arsenal, let's make use of it to combat a serious problem. Or to deter some who may otherwise choose to violate the laws which bring it into play.
This may be a naive question, but how do these companies do their payroll? I had to physically produce my social security card to a large employer 20 years ago in order to be put on the payroll (seems people forget their ss numbers). That said, withholding taxes, ss taxes, local taxes all require a ss number. And that can be enforced by an audit of any business.
You can tell the contractors on this thread and others like it by simply reading their responses.
I'm a contractor for over 20yrs. I don't hire illegals nor do any of my sub contractors. I tell anyone that comes on my job that for safety among other important communication reasons, everyone has to speak and understand english...otherwise they're off the job site.
The cheap illegal labor isn't holding prices down, it's lining pockets.
"Accident claims are being denied to those without Social Security numbers"
People make choices. Choices have consequences.
Well you would be wrong but I'm sure that has never stopped you in the past from being a asshole.
If you think that the solution to illegal immigration is to allow them to walk across the border without being stopped, allowing them to gather in plain sight of government without intervention, allowing them to become contractors on there own without repercussions. Then go after legitimate American business's because they have to compete against illegal business's.
Then you are living in a alternate universe as well as being a asshole.
Dear Kettle,
Yes I am black.

Question: Does anyone know how legal hispanic US citizens feel about the illegals? After they went through the proper channels to be here legally?
You got that right!
Cut this off at the root of the problem, the employers that hire these illegal alien invaders (they are NOT undocumented migrants). There seems to be an "organized" operation going on to allow import and employment of these illegals. There fore it is organized crime.
All those people who advocate making it easier for or give any aid or employment to any illegal aliens are actively participating in this criminal conspiracy and need to be indicted for their activities. Mayors of sanctuary cities should be arrested and removed from office and charged with felony charges of child abuse for allowing criminals to remain at large in our neighborhoods. Isn't this what the RICO Act was created to do in the first place? Protect us from organized crime?
Why it isn't used as intended here is too obvious. It's because neither of the TWO parties in our current political system has the guts. Too many guilty on both sides, so they just look the other way, wink and vote themselves a raise. I want them indicted too, and kicked out of office in disgrace for violation of oath of office. Time to hold all their feet to the fire. All politicians, all employers, all non-profit organization CEO's and directors and all the activist judges participating in this assault are guilty of breaking federal laws or their oath of office and must be held to account one day.
Ah, poor, poor, wage depreciating illegal immigrant, woe is me, life is so hard since I broke this country's laws and continue to do so today.
All I have done by working off the books for el cheapo employers is lower the wages of all working class Americans.
The Gringos all believe I just do stoop labor and work in the hotel restaurant industry. Hee, hee, yeah, right, 11 million farm workers, si. I now work cheaply in the formerly high paying construction jobs and have displaced the most skilled of the Gringo workers. You will find me hidden in almost all small businesses, laboring away, out of sight, out of mind.
And don't bother looking for work here at the Tyson Chicken plucking plant. Old Arky gov Huck and El Presidenti Bush allows me and my compadres to have these job markets all locked up. In case of an opening , I just send for my cousin Jose down in Paradisio Mexico, so we can then send more of these evil Yankee dollars back to V. Fox and his Mafioso government amigos.
Hey, is America not a great country for us Gringo hating victims of Yankee exploitation. Adios, we are just doing the jobs Blacks won't do.
The article glosses over the fact that he crossed our border illegally. It makes it sound like he took a Greyhound Bus to Florida. It is hard not to be sympathetic to the individual inequities, but we can't legitimize the status of illegal aliens. I bet he received free medical treatment at the emergency room.
He's not supposed to be here. He's not supposed to be working in the United States. Had he stayed at home, he wouldn't have been there to have the accident. He deserves nothing.
But what about the employer? I'm sure he hired another illegal to replace this guy.
Out here, So Cal, it's simply assumed that the other party will dissappear.
Sometimes that's best, I've had weeks of midnight telephone calls demanding that I recant what I saw at the scene of an accident because it's racist to testify to someone's boneheaded traffic skills.
That would be true but for some protections which have evolved in the common law....and some states even provide new home buyers with statutory protections. The most comprehensive protection is the "Implied warranty of habitability"....which arises in ALL new home sales, and to a certain extent, subsequent purchasers of the new homes can also rely on it to hold general contractors responsible for shoddy workmanship. The implied warranty can be disclaimed by contract, however....and if the disclaimer is effective....it will cut off this cause of action for dis-satisfied homeowners. Before signing on the dotted line to buy or build a new home...you need to have a reputable lawyer review the document to make sure your interests are protected. Contractors are less able to shaft the buyer today than they used to be....but you need to make sure that the contract protects your interests.
alas...were we (shock!) lied to?
Too bad.
Go to hell, straight to hell and don't pass GO!
Any company that hires an illegal not only should be fined but the owners put in prison!
To a point, yes. However, the buyer can't "see through walls" to look at the REAL construction before they buy - they can only see surface details and imperfections and not interior flaws or 'low limit' materials (they legally 'make' building code, but not by much).
Also, when the builder dissolves and reincorporates (more common than one might think) then the buyer has little recourse against a company that no longer exists.
