I don't see the Slimes as self-interested, careerist, or un-professional.

I believe they deeply care about America and the world, and will even take risks to forward their agenda. They make every effort to follow the rules of their profession as taught to them in journalism schools.

The problem is:

They have been taught to lie lie lie to advance their socialist one-world cause. They are fairly decent propagandists and would have fit in well on Goebbel's staff.

The problem is they share none of my values and their spin on current events is of less interest to me than the opinions of my two dogs.

This is not (to use the current bureaucratic term) a "curable deficiency".
