I don't see the problem. If a black actor can play Huck convincingly, let him put on heavy white greasepaint. If a white actor can do a convincing Jim, let him put on a thick coat of blackface greasepaint. Oh, boy!!!

In the 'radical' sixties Step was considered a handkerchief head and Black activists spared no insult about his career even though he was a brilliant caricaturist of the lazy Black stereotype and one of the first Black movie stars when blacks had few or no speaking parts.
