Yeah, I can't begin to imagine how hard it might be to put out that kind of emotional strength for so many patients for such a long time during a nursing career (a few of us patients do occasionally think about these things while we're lying immobilized in our beds).
My nurses were the best, but I'm an FR kinda guy, and I didn't hit on them too hard (except for maybe one, who stole my heart too, LOL). They really did bring me back to life.
Anyway, kudos for the work nurses do. p.s. What a strange thread to be posting on. Zot!
I am one of those nurses who took care of the seriously broken bodies. We were always thankful when the patients were conscious and able to flirt. Way too many were not. Anyway, we always talked to the folks who were not responsive--we know those patients can hear. So many came back many months later to tell us so.
