A Reputation in Tatters
George W. Bush and his gang of neocon warmongers have destroyed Americas reputation. It is likely to stay destroyed, because at this point the only way to restore Americas reputation would be to impeach and convict President Bush for intentionally deceiving Congress and the American people in order to start a war of aggression against a country that posed no threat to the United States.
America can redeem itself only by holding Bush accountable.
As intent as Republicans were to impeach President Bill Clinton for lying about a sexual affair, they have a blind eye for President Bushs far more serious lies. Bushs lies have caused the deaths of tens of thousands of people, injured and maimed tens of thousands more, devastated a country, destroyed Americas reputation, caused 1 billion Muslims to hate America, ruined our alliances with Europe, created a police state at home, and squandered $300 billion dollars and counting.
Americas reputation is so damaged that not even our puppets can stand the heat. Anti-American riots, which have left Afghan cities and towns in flames and hospitals overflowing with casualties, have forced Bushs Afghan puppet, President Hamid Karzai, to assert his independence from his U.S. overlords. In a belated act of sovereignty, Karzai asserted authority over heavy-handed U.S. troops whose brutal and stupid ways sparked the devastating riots. Karzai demanded control of U.S. military activities in Afghanistan and called for the return of the Afghan detainees who are being held at the U.S. prison in Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.
Abundant evidence now exists in the public domain to convict George W. Bush of the crime of the century. The secret British government memo (dated July 23, 2002, and available here), leaked to the Sunday Times (which printed it on May 1, 2005), reports that Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy. . . . But the case was thin. Saddam was not threatening his neighbors, and his WMD capability was less than that of Libya, North Korea or Iran. . . . The (United Kingdom) attorney general said that the desire for regime change was not a legal base for military action. There were three possible legal bases: self-defense, humanitarian intervention or UNSC (U.N. Security Council) authorization. The first and second could not be the base in this case. Relying on UNSCR 1205 of three years ago would be difficult.
This memo is the mother of all smoking guns. Why isnt Bush in the dock?
Has American democracy failed at home?

Neither did we bend over backwards to let them come and go, and associate and assemble, freely within our borders; unlike today. And neither did we let them enter through other countries; unlike today.

Roberts had an "we're all doomed" article last week that all the FR trade protectionists were stroking themselves with glee over; haven't noticed any of them on this thread; go figure.
Are you sure the date is correct? This rant is so "first term".
You're wrong, on two levels.
First, the Marshall Plan was precisely about getting them to like us, in the sense that rebuilding their countries and gaining their trust was a better solution to ensuring a lasting peace, than was the "tribute and humiliation" approach that characterized the post-WWI settlement.
Second, we're not at war with 1 billion Muslims, and never will be, unless stupid people on our side decide to make them all enemies, rather than turning them against the relative handful of salamikazes with whom we are at war.
They wouldn't even know what impeachment was if we hadn't impeached Bubba, and justifiably so, LOL.
All impeachments belong to us.
That is as far as I got, too. It is Friday & I can't read tripe on Friday.
"Crusade" comes to mind....
The problem with Winston Churchill is that there was only one of him.
Britain (and the WWII alliance) needed dozens of him.
If only there could have been three of him at Yalta!
Say what you like. Muslims hate the US not for what we are but rather for what they are not.
I'll venture to guess that Paul Craig Roberts has been a respected conservative commentator longer than you have been drawing breath.
This guy is a total idiot.
However, it is a good thing that the Repubs control both houses, or the Dems would be moving towards impeachment procedings against Bush now.
Why??
They're sore losers and vicious demagogues. This is exactly what they pulled on Nixon after his re-election.
The Dems can't forgive Bush for beating Gore in a close race.
The Dems can't forgive Bush for handling 9-11, Afghanistan and Iraq so well.
The Dems can't forgive Bush for beating Kerry so soundly and picking up additional seats in Congress.
And Bush is merely a "real" moderate, as opposed to phoney liberals like McCain and Whitman, whom the libs are so fond of calling "moderates".
You can imagine what they would be doing if Bush was a real conservative. They would be in the streets shooting.
Because the Democrat Party has incrementally swung so far to the left that they no longer represent majority American thinking on any subject, now or generations saw things previously.
The only thing which keeps the Democrat hate machine plugging along, spewing its venom, and hoping to sacrifice the safety of American citizens and servicement in an attempt to discredit the administration are the RINOs in Congress -like McCain - and the far leftist major media who have so recently demonstrated such a cavlier and criminal disregard for America, the truth, and any principles their "profession" may once have had.
"All impeachments are belong to us"
Doesn't say much for the Hoover Institution, does it? What are they, an organization of vacuum cleaner salesmen?
And that one major reason why they will keep losing again and again. They live in their own delusional world where the concept of victory is totally detach from reality.
The reason no one in Congress is pulling for an impeachment is that they authorized the military intervention themselves in a joint resolution in 2002.
This isn't very complicated, really, and I would hope a fellow of the august Hoover Institute would do a little better than this hysterical ranting.
The operative words in the above being "has been"
Say what you like. Muslims hate the US not for what we are but rather for what they are not.
We're not at war with Islam, and most of them don't hate us. However, your blithe assumption that "all Muslims" hate us (and why), and the logical consequent -- that they're all our enemies, is precisely the sort of stupidity that will put us at war with Islam, as opposed to a relatively small number of fanatics.
Well if you would like to leave a comment
