Affirmative Action in practice.

My own company prides itself on its diversity; our customer service sucks, but we get high marks for our minority women in upper management percentages from magazines nobody ever reads.

***to ensure the U.S. continues as the world's "helping hand." ***

And that is her bottom line. Taxpayers! Keep up the handouts so that 3rd world citizens feel free to come to the land of milk and honey to give us the finger.

No offense, but did you by chance graduate from bartending school?

That would certainly be more preferable than the truth.

IAWTP. Any soft drink company that hire future crackwhore Britney Spears can take its products, shine em up real nice, and stick em straight up their own candy a**es. Diet Coke with Splenda is my drink of choice...just for the taste of it.

An interesting parallel here...

Muslims kill each other over a false story regarding their holy book, then refuse the retraction as valid.

Bloggers simply vent and suggest boycotts over a true story of a corporate exec whose comments had some (perhaps) unintentional interpretations.

So which group is more adult in their behavior?

To be fair, Ms. Nooryi's comments could have been misconstrued (we're the good guys here, remember?). If Pepsi is truly sincere, then they should make a noteworthy effort to actually thank the troops and/or their families, such as some patriotic commercials. That would go a long, long way towards dispelling the possible anti-American sense in her speech. And unlike cowardly Newsweek, Pepsi could stand up and say, "You know what? That's not what she meant and we'll put our money where our mouths are."

Maybe she should reexamine who she hangs out with. She knows of businessmen that acted like jerks while visiting China.

I know two different families that went to China and adopted two beautiful little girls.

I'd be willing to bet that the average family person willing to adopt an orphan represents American better than the globe trotting jerks used in her analogy.

call here:

1-800-433-2652

Speak with a real live Pepsi person and let them know what you think...

Sounds like (when I spoke with "Sharon") that this is a burgeoning problem for them...she tried to convince me,nicely of course, that I had taken the offensive remarks out of context...I told her that I had heard enough of the speech to fully understand Ms. Nooyi's disparaging intent.

The call is free. Let them hear from all of us who are, indeed, offended--like me, Ms. Nooyi!

Thanks, but I doubt "Sharon" gives a damn. The board of directors surely would.

Hi South40,

Sharon, the woman at PepsiCo that I spoke with, is in public relations and assured me (I know I'm trusting her to be truthful here) that my message and zip code (which she requested) would be passed on to executives and ?? (can't remember who else she said.)
I think it is well worth it to speak to a live person. It seemed clear by her ready response (trying to convince me that I, and others, had misunderstood Ms. Nooyi) that they have already had a significant number of negative callers and e-mailers.

I'm sure that calling and e-mailing is effective.
Do whatever is easiest for you--I like to speak with real live people and share not just my words but my decidedly angry (in a non-shouting or offensive kind of way) reaction.

I think that U.S. citizens should be highly aware that we are NOT liked worldwide.

And why is that? Care to share? How do we fix this "supposed" dislike of America?

Actually got a reply to my letter to them.

Weasel words about how they realize that people were offended by the remarks and they will work hard to win back my trust.

HAH!!!

Buy Coca Cola stock and sell Pepsi, as I suspect Pepsi is about to lose significant market share in the USA.

Thanks for the number. I just called and spoke with someone who indicated they had received many calls on this. She said Ms N is a true American and did not mean it the way it was taken. Told her that Ms N is evidently a very intelligent woman who did not use her brains to use that kind of anology to make a point if indeed her apology was sincere.

I just checked PepsiCo's stock price---gagg! it is UP $.03 a share!

The America I know and love needs more info on Ms. Nooyi, and what she said, so that PepsiCo can feel it where it hurts--in their pocket--at least until they do something much more definitive than that mealy-mouthed non-apology.
