In 1967, LBJ ordered Sec Def Clark Clifford, another Dem bigwig of the day, to detail CIC and CID personnel from the Army to the Clark DoJ to shadow the Commies in what was euphemistically referred to as the "antiwar movement." The result? Revisionist history now records that the evil "Nixon sicced the Army on peace demonstrators in illegal domestic spying." No mention of LBJ, Clifford or Ramsey Clark. Just like in 1942 when the Japanese were locked up in the desert -- no mention of California gov Earl Warren, who insisted they be locked away.

Clark was also one of the most (up to then) enthusiastic AGs about conducting wire taps including greatly increasing the use of warrant less taps whose info couldn't be used in criminal prosecutions but were good grist for LBJ's 'enemies file'. (The one that never gets talked about.)
