Have you looked into any links between him and Russian oil companies? In the 1990s when the company Svyazinvest was privatized he sided in a bidding war with some Western investors and Vladimir Potanin of Onexim Bank against a group of bidders backed by Boris Berezovsky and Vladimir Gusinsky--after which he ended up losing a lot of money in the 1998 crash--and it seems like a lot of his economic and political activity is geared towards increasing his influence in the Caucasus. I sometimes wonder if his business interests in this area figure into his opposition to Bush's Middle Eastern policy.
