Drudge ^ | 5/20/05 | Drudge

CBS head Leslie Moonves declared this week: "I think talking to ghosts will skew younger than talking to God."

Moonves made the starling comments during a breakfast with reporters where he announced his new fall schedule.

"The Ghost Whisperer," a supernatural drama about a woman who communicates with the spirit world, will replace "Joan of Arcadia," which features a young woman who speaks to God.

"They called us the geezer network," Moonves explained.

See BS is owned by Mr. L. Moonbat's Viacom, what do you expect?

They are drowning and flailing!

The Arcadia show (which I saw once or twice) was a theological mess.

Worse than Touched By An Angel or Highway To Heaven?

" "I think talking to ghosts will skew younger than talking to God." "

I'm not sure God is approving, Moonves. You might better watch out.

Seemed a religiously decent, if generic show to me...and was far more nuanced than Touched By an Angel.

I'm not sure what anyone's getting worked up about. All he's saying is that a show about ghosts n' ghoulies and such would probably draw more younger viewers than a religious-themed show. He's probably right. I might give "Ghost Whisperer" a try. I think it'll probably be similar to the other new show, "Supernatural", on the WB.

Nobody on this thread seems to be complaining. Of course, Moonves knew the irony of his statement.

""The Ghost Whisperer," a supernatural drama about a woman who communicates with the spirit world..."

Boy, that sure sounds original.

"The Ghost Whisperer," a supernatural drama about a woman who communicates with the spirit world.

Advertisers of this are endorsing witchcraft and demonic contact ...

Jesus, Lot, Joan of Arc, Elijah, Zecharia, Mary, among others all communicated with the spirit world.

I can predict that it will be a cross between Ghost Busters and The Horse Whisperer, with a bit of The Bridges of Madison County thrown in for good measure, and maybe a few ideas from The DaVinci Code.

Whatever it takes, eh, Les?

"Jesus, Lot, Joan of Arc, Elijah, Zecharia, Mary, among others all communicated with the spirit world."

I referenced the evil side of the spirit world, which is clearly being positioned by the TV show as (at least sometimes) benign or benevolent. The devil goes about as an angel of light....

You'd be real amused to find out that there was a real Stratford Inn- and it was run by George McGovern and some partners after McGovern left the Senate.

They eventually went bankrupt.

And McGovern subsequently wrote an article for Inc. Magazine (I think that was where it was originally printed) where he confessed that he had no idea just how much small businesses were affected by laws that Senators voted for almost without thinking about them, and that if he'd been aware of that while he was in the Senate, his votes might have differed.

I need somebody to explain the whole demographic thing to me. I'm married, I work, I'm educated and I'm in my 40s - I have a lot of disposable income compared to students, people just starting careers and young families. Why aren't the advertisers interested in me? I may not talk to dead people but I do carry Visa.

I don't care about Joan or spooks but I'd watch documentaries about crime or hunting or science.

It does not happen too often, but this sentence makes absolutely no sense to me.

OK - so a show that sort of had at least a little relation to God (though often in a twisted sort of way) will be replaced with a show that glorifies the mystical "spiritualist" realm.... I can't wait...... to change the channel....

No you didn't. Here's what you wrote:

That being said, I have no idea what the series will be about and as much as I despise CBS, I doubt they're going to endorse satanism although I wouldn't put it past them.

A synopsis of the show from the CBS website says :

it focuses on a young newlywed endowed with the unique ability to communicate with spirits, who has spent her entire life coping with this extraordinary gift,
The spirit world is a natural part of the creation. My parents and ancestors are all there. If I could communicate with them, I would, gladly.

I wonder where, in the course of things, where God thinks Moonves skews?

So they're cancelling "Joan of Arcadia"? That's not a bad show. That and "Raymond" were about the only things on SeeBS (DNCBS) that were worth the time.

I'm sure hallmark or someone will pick up "Joan." It will wind up being a follow-up to "Touched by an Angel."

G -- "witchcraft and demonic contact" IS the evil side of the spirit world.

I will grant you that any CBS focus on, or advocacy of, that evil side is neither implied nor explicit in the article.
