Put an Eye Out CBS cancels ''Joan of Arcadia,'' ''Judging Amy'' -- The low-rated former hits get the ax, as does the Wednesday edition of ''60 Minutes'' by Mickey O'Connor
Oh, God. It's official. At the unveiling of CBS' fall 2005 lineup Wednesday, the network announced that it has axed Joan of Arcadia, the underdog-that-couldn't, despite last year's Emmy nomination for lead Amber Tamblyn and much critical love. A second-season ratings slump made continuing it not feasible, said CBS chairman Les Moonves, calling it one of his biggest disappointments.
In other cancellation news, a desire to attract a younger demographic has spelled the end for two graying CBS shows: The awards magnet Judging Amy has heard its final sentence, and the beleagured Wednesday edition of news warhorse 60 Minutes, which suffered after a story that questioned President Bush's military service proved to be false, will stop production as well.
So what will replace these dearly departed shows? Among the new series that the chatty Moonves held forth on: a comedy about a family of doctors; a drama about FBI profilers; and, er, Jennifer Love Hewitt seeing dead people. ''I think talking to ghosts may skew younger than talking to God,'' Moonves said. From his mouth to... oh, never mind.
Thanks for the ping.
Fox is conflicted.
"That 70's Show" is both kept and canceled. I quit watching that when they all got out of high school. (TV high school...they're all probably in their mid-20's)
Thanks! I loved the original when it came out. I hope the remake is as good.
Also, unlike all the other shows people are complaining about, "House" works in all kinds of wonderfully cynical slams against PC idiocy. One of my favorites was when a patient was asked his "medical" history, and he listed all these New Age quack practitioners. House's diagnosis was a list of all the possible things that might have caused his problem, such as "an infection from the acupuncturist leaving his needles lying around in the 'eye of newt' all night."
Diagnosis: typing too fast.
I'll give it a look. I loved Hugh Laurie on "Black Adder". I had no idea he was Dr. House but then I never paid attention to the ads.
My wife made me watch "Gilmore Girls" last year, now I'm watching the series reruns on ABC Family so I can get up to speed with "the early years" of the show. It a pretty "libby" type of a show but the dialog is smart and funny.
Darn, kinda liked "Eyes". Sorry to see it go.
I've seen it in syndication a couple times, which is the only time we usually see series TV in our house (we never watch prime time except for 24).
But when I heard Tyne Daly say something like "I'd rather be trapped in a basement with two Republicans and a pit bull" I knew I was done.
Anything I watch on my tube comes from a dvd or tape - since 1997.
We are the better for it.
Coming Thursdays this Fall!
CSI -Smackdown!!
I believe the theory is that those under 40 are more influenced by advertising. This will eventually become a moot point as PVRs gain in popularity and advertising revenue becomes a less viable method of funding production.
I heart Love. Love Love Love.
If she's on TV, I'm watching, no matter how ridiculous the story.
Says me, the man who owns The Tuxedo on DVD.
To be honest, we don't watch a whole lot of TV anyway, but American Idol and House are more than we watch on the other networks most of the time.
Cable channels (History, Biography, A&E...) get much more airplay in our house, but we still don't have the TV on all the time.
"So far, the one show that hasn't done that is "24"--I hope they don't start."
I find it wierd that virtually every single terrorist in 24 is a white American, with the exception of Habib Marwan, who could pass for a French Canadian, and the woman who was a terrorist, but became an informat because she loved her son more than her cause.
The pilot who shot down Air Force 1, the woman who shot the FBI agent, the two terrorists who seduced the SOS's son, the guys on the houseboat, the guy who decoded the nuclear codes, they ALL are white Americans...it's totally bizarre to me, like the whole terrorist act was a conspiracy by the Elks Lodge!

We stopped the sat feed a long time ago and turned pagan feminazi television off. It stays off except for educational videos and an occasional movie. And television is a distraction that keeps too many people misinformed, ignorant and financially poor.
Me too. Don't you love the out takes at the end? JLH is just...so...danged...cute. A real Texas girl.
I liked Tyne Daley in the part she played simply because she would not take s**t from anybody.
OH! NO!...a liberal reporter running around Chicago, driving stakes through conservatives hearts, no doubt.
LOL! :D or "CSI Irvine / Harlan" [Kentucky]
