Cross-dressing teen snatches man's wallet on 'date'
ISESAKI, Gunma -- A teen who dressed up in a miniskirt, posing as a woman so he could get close to a company worker and steal his wallet was arrested Wednesday, police said.
Gunma Prefectural Police arrested the 16-year-old youth on suspicion of theft, along with an accomplice who helped him carry out the crime.
Investigators said the teen conspired with a 24-year-old man, and on an evening in February, he dressed up in a miniskirt and put on makeup to go on a "date" with a 46-year-old company worker.
When the youth demanded a "date fee" and the company worker presented his wallet, the youth snatched it and ran away. The victim tried to chase after the youth, but the 24-year-old man stood in his way, saying, "What's the matter?"
While the man pretended to look for the "girl" with the company worker, the youth ran away.
"Men don't realize when other men dress up as girls," said a police officer commenting on the case. It appears that the man was unable to detect the ulterior motives of the boy dressed up as a girl. (Mainichi Shimbun, Japan, May 19, 2005)

In Japan, if I'm not mistaken, it is commonplace for a man to pay a girl for a date - not for sex, necessarily, but just for the chance to spend an evening with her.
