Eheheheh. Democratic deficit all right - Canada is a country which doesn't elect its head of state (being a constitutional monarchy), doesn't elect its cabinet (being a parliamentary system) and doesn't elect its senators (appointed by the PM or GG on advice of the PM, i forget). So anyway...
Our Senators are appointed for life, (till 75yrs. of age, which ever comes first.), by the Prime Minister.
Not that I'm anything other than 100% pro-American but, to be accurate, Canada does elect its Cabinet - or a least its members from their individual Ridings - while U.S. Cabinet members are Presidential appointees subsequently vetted and confirmed by its Senate.
