Some passersby in the neighborhood who spoke to NY1 said they would think twice before ever walking over a grate again. "It's pretty awful. It really is. I think that I walk over that every single day, but she actually wears skirts more than I do," said one woman, referring to another woman with her. "I happen to have one on today. I'm so glad that I was wearing pants [the rest of the time.]"Honey, if millions of men can identify you personally by seeing a grainy TV shot of your naughty bits, you have far more problems in your life than worrying about grates.

"It's really weird that people would actually do this," said a young girl. "I think it's disgusting." ,,, disgusting? I think so too. Technology has replaced good old fashioned imagination. I bet there will be a wire tax introduced before breakfast time tomorrow.

Bill Clintons office is in NYC, the camera is found in NYC. Coincidence? I think not..

A few years ago, Governor George Pataki signed a law making "video voyeurism" a felony offense in New York State, meaning the person responsible for installing the camera could face up to seven years in prison if convicted. It wasn't that long ago.
I think it was within the last 2 years (last year?).
I remember when I was a kid, a high school girl telling me that she saw a video camera sticking out of the grate near the grade school where her sister was.

Having lived and worked all over the city, the question is: Why does this writer make it sound like it's the first camera ever found??
This game has been going on since they vented the tunnels in the 19th century. It's typical that the two idiots they quoted where the only two idiots in the city that weren't aware. As far back as grade school in the 50's they warned girls about walking over the grates if for nothing else then to catch their skirts when a train passed.

I told you, you should have used wireless.
Real-time collection is the way to go. You can't always count on being able to collect and upload.

The California company that manufactures the camera says it will work with police to trace the serial number back to its owner. Never send in those registration cards!

They should have get a group of Scottish gents in full regalia to go traipsing around the streets of New York.
Then the police can just hang out and listen for the screams of nerds when these kilt clad men cross the plane of a camera pointing skyward.
I'm sure the hysterical blindness from the shock would be guarantee a conviction.
