Why are squirrels cute and rats disgusting?

Is it the fur? Or the fluffy tail?

Would I still love Bubba if he didn't have fur?

Didn't they use to call chihuahuas Mexican hairless?

Do I sound like old "did ya ever wonder" on 60 minutes?

I think rats are cute. I had a rat for one of my psych classes and named him Cuddles. I was very upset when my mom wouldn't let me bring him home :( Poor Cuddles had to be snake food.

We're pretty generally pro-rodent, but it's not just the white belly fur and fluffy tails. Rats and squirrels have totally different faces! They look nothing alike to me. Although my grandmother was terrified of squirrels, I think she could not get past them reminding her of the rats in the tenement when she was a kid. She was very scared of them.

Would I still love Bubba if he didn't have fur? Huh?
