DES MOINES, Iowa -- Some University of Iowa students may be able to get an "A" in X-rated.
The school will be offering a class on porn in the fall semester.
All 20 student slots have been filled and there's a waiting list.
Grad student Jay Clarkson is teaching the course. But he cautioned that students looking for a cheap thrill will be disappointed. He said no films or other explicit material will be shown in class. Clarkson said the class will examine the impact of porno on mainstream culture.
But Iowa House Speaker Chris Rants doesn't like the idea a bit. The lawmaker said the pornography class isn't something that should be taught with taxpayer's money.
Sick!
101 things you can do with a cob of corn?
ping
Ping.
...but porn industry recruiters will be allowed on campus.
Oh Pooh! This ain't nothing! Haven't we all heard about porn classes that included student field trips to strip clubs and student projects that included making your own porn films and even live sex acts performed in class?
lol
For an entire semester? I could see one 50 min. discussion in a sociology class or something like that. But a whole semester?
Sometimes it takes longer than 50 minutes.
Dean:Instead of providing adequate funding to important classes how about we make a class about porn. Aid: BRILLIANT
College kiddies acting naughty? I think I'll dig up me old Abercrombie catalog collection...
Rats! I just remembered I sold them for a fortune on EBay last year. As I recall, my only misgiving about the catalog was that ALL the models had to look like an SS recruiter's wet dream.
That would be legit. Recall the History Channel's "The History of Sex" and Discovery's "The XY Factor."
This is sick. We're in a stalemate here in Iowa on our budget. The RATS want us to believe we're not spending enough money on education. This proves we're spending too much. I expect the House and Senate Republicans to hold their ground and kudos to Chris Rants. Way to go, Chris!!!
Let the double entendres begin...!
It is possible, not likely but possible, that this class may actually discuss how awful the early sexualization of our children by mainstream culture is harmful among other worthy topics.
I am not holding my breath, but my knee is not jerking either.
Interesting the AP would pick up on this. There's nothing salacious in the story and the class is designed to study the effects of widespread porn on culture, not the porn itself. It must be that the word "porn" gets the attention of the wire service. Hmmm
