Welcome, all you Freepers, to the continuing C-span soap operas about judicial nominations. "The Guiding SEARCHLIGHT, " "As the SENATE Turns, "One NOMINATION to Live" "GERIATRIC Hospital" (for all you Byrd and Lautenberg fans out there). Follow along with us, as the Dems raise the level of histrionics, bloviation, pontification, and all around bad acting to new highs, er, lows...
My grandfather, (democrat), used to pour his coffee into his saucer.
You're right. It's easy to forget most people are seeing this for the first time.
IMO, being as unbiased as possible, people are tossing "facts" back and forth resulting in draw. So what will survive is the following:
1) Reps are calm.
2) Democrats are frothing at the mouth.
3) Reps want an up or down vote which the American people will think reasonable.
4) A face to a name. It's harder to demonize an opponent to the American people when they are seen the face of Owens and Brown.
Checkmate. Dems lose.
Didn't FRist NOT agree to the committees not meeting? I can't remember, I had just turned this on at that point,it was right at the beginning so I could have it wrong.
The dems are not just trying to block the confirmation of these judges, they are trying to deny their fellow senators the opportunity to discharge their Constitutional duty to advise and consent (or not).
You know, I have heard different dems complain that if the Reps does this constitutional option that it would make the Senate more like the GASP, House of Representatives---
Feinstein just referred to the fact that any senator can put a secret "hold" on any nomination or piece of legislation, which forces a cloture vote...blah, blah, which makes the SENATE so much more special than the house...
I just wonder how many FANS these people making of their state's Representatives when they degrade the House in all of these speeches---and they talk about Bush's "love" of power!
1. Is it really up to HIM to allow or not allow committees to meet? I was sure he was the MINORITY leader. Perhaps he doesn't think so?
2. P.J. O'Rourke wrote something about "Distracting Congress from governing is like distracting a bear from eating your wallet." He was right.
Yet they complain about being able to debate the nominees- and what do they do with their time? Jeez.
I just wanna punch him right in the mouth....just once : )
That is great strateegery because it is piling on like the grand finale of a fireworks display. Throw everything but the kitchen sink at em. The dems look old compared to the pubbies and even the botox cannot make the dems look like they have not been beaten. It takes a lot more energy and stamina to be mean, vicious and crazy acting in public compared to what the Pubbies do,just be calm and decent. As horrible as the Dems are it is still not natural to always be in the fight or flight hateful mode,it takes its toll on the body. The only Pubbie that looks old is "ole Arlen"and he is naturally craggy looking and has been undergoing "Chemo".
She's lying through her false teeth!
Pour the coffee in the sink
Precisely. Just as it was fine with Dems for Bill Clinton to carry around the biggest fattest Bible you've ever seen, with a huge cross embossed on it --because everybody knew it was a prop he didn't take seriously.
Must be a demonRAT tactic. I do get email replies from Lautenberg- but they are usually months later and I've forgotten what it was originally about, the emails are no help.
She then asked why an up or down vote is the end-all and be-all. This from the party of "every vote counts."
After a week of the Dems saying nothing of substance the public will be sick of them and say just vote. The longer this drags out, the more the Dems dig their grave.
Is the senate the cup and the house the saucer?
I'm getting my place settings confused.
My dad does that. He's from Virginia, like Jefferson was!
Dang--smarty-pants, and I was so sure that REid had shut down the Senate like they had threatened!!! LOL
